It is true the milder weather has an affect. Being from Van you would see this all the time. Being broke and homeless when it is milder means you have more opportunity to be out and about and able to survive. I don't think that is blaming climate change... Orrrr maybe my sarcasm detector is down? LolOriginally posted by Sugarphreak
Calgary Herald published this yesterday. Apparently there has been a 40% increase in theft and assaults downtown when compared to figures in 2015
Calgary police suggest mild winter, drug trade behind downtown crime surge

I find it kind of funny they partly blame a mild winter. Is there anything that you can't blame climate change on? Wait... Has this been peer reviewed??
Maybe we should be using NDP carbon tax money to fund the police force as part of our climate change plan?
TBH I expected a much greater increase.
Cocoa $12,000 per ton.
It's the right thing to do.

Watched a guy prowl my car in Bridgeland on Tuesday, wasn't too happy about that
Sig nuked by mod.
I know OP is saying it tongue in cheek, but our mild weather absolutely was a huge factor. I remember driving around at 4 in the morning in February wondering why so many familiar faces were out and about, and going to call after call at normally quiet times pretty much straight through the winter. We attributed it to both the economy and weather that is more conducive to drug trade related crime. It's much easier to traffic drugs and deal with debts at 4 am when it's relatively warm and the streets are deserted.
It's nuts out there in general, but the winter was noticeably busier than I've ever seen it. More than a few times I remember mid week early mornings feeling like a weekend. It was bonkers.

You've got a crazy ass job.
Careful on the adjectives though, as you might breach your sig.

I'm surprised it wasn't worse.
We've had 2 B&E into our condo underground parking so far this year. No damage to vehicles, but they snooped through open storage units and such
I would've assumed it was due to the increase in fentanyl usage
Go Flames!
Good call.. Will edit.Originally posted by Seth1968

It sounds like it. We were realigned again and we don't cover it anymore, but we sure get a lot of the spill over. The bad guys don't seem to care about the 14 St district border, haha.Originally posted by finboy
