iFixit has a good tear down of the airpods max. Has a CS44L22 DAC which only supports up to 24 bit 96khz, so it will never be able to play 24 bit 192khz that Apple Music lossless supports. There’s a USB controller in there, so in theory it should be able to connect to a computer as an audio device if Apple allows it. Is 24/96 considered high res lossless?

Not that airpods max are ideal for lossless audio anyways. There’s apparently a shit ton of processing to make it sound the way it does, which kinda defeats the purpose.

So basically, like everyone else listening to lossless, external dac to your device, and analog headphones to the dac.

It might be possible to rewrite the firmware to handle lossless, or bypass the DAC entirely and have the output device handle all the processing.

The chip that powers the drivers can’t handle 24/192. It’s a hardware limitation.

Saying it works for Apple TV is like saying it works for iPhones. They're just passing the stream to whatever can process it. Apple TV's case, over HDMi and a receiver on the other end that can process the hi res lossless stream.

The iPhones work by connecting a camera adapter, then a USB DAC, then to an amp and analog headphones haha. Dongle heaven. I guess that's how people have been listening to non Apple lossless content right now.

They seem to work as advertised. I attached a keychain to the dog collar haha. Need to free him in the wild to test.

Got some landscaping design I was hoping to sketch out which would be ideal on the iPad. But $130 bucks is a bit rich for a 1st Gen pencil that came out years ago.

I assume someone has one of these in the back of a desk drawer never being used or for someone who got the new style upgrade.

Have you also considered the Ipad Air 4?
For most people IMO the Air and even standard Ipad is more than enough.

I actually just bought an Ipad 8th gen and Logitech keyboard with touchpad that will be used as every day tablet/computer, especially once we can start travel again instead of having to lug a laptop and ipad with us.

I really like my Air 3, but the air 4 is a serious piece of kit.

The pro occupies a really odd space right now. It’s difficult to describe what it’s really for unless you are the kind of person who knows they will need the extra horsepower. But MiniLED screens are pretty sweet haha.

I was actually watching Pro vs Air comparison videos yesterday and for the MOST part Air would be plenty enough for me, except I intend to use this for court purposes (Webex) as lot of matters now are taking place virtually so I like the idea of having a better front camera that tracks your movement and everything. For the difference of $250, I think the Pro is probably worth it.

I have heard that the front camera is quite a gimmick in practice.

That said. Will you be able to sleep at night knowing there is a more expensive one out there?
