I thought you can do it in some apps but not system wide. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Wonder how painful it'll be. I mean they'll have the emulation shit going, but that'll eat up battery life like a mofu assuming it's as fast as they promise. All depends on how fast software developers want to optimize for a totally new CPU. I think with the ability to run iOS apps, they're going to speed up adoption pretty quickly and force the hand of developers. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

i was asking you the question, not saying that you can. I missed the post showing this was announced at WWDC in upcoming OS's so my bad. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Definitely looking forward to this, i actually like the Edge browser and Outlook apps better than Safari/Mail but its such a pain when it's not the default.
My guess is this is going to be a million times more painful than the intel switchover. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
At least that time they were switching from something no one used to the same technology everyone else used.
This is going pretty hard against the grain and I wonder if macs really have the user vase left to bother with this.
How successful is the surface pro X lol

They said developers could get their apps working in a matter of days which makes it sound like it takes some decent legwork. I am sure there will be some growing pains but the socs they have currently developed especially as of late have been excellent and using the ipad processor in something like a macbook air would make sense but I wonder what kind of stuff they have planned for the much more powerful systems. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Have never seen a surface pro x in the wild yet, it is interesting, especially with the built in lte, but woof at that price once you add the accessories.
When they switched to intel, there is really no devs working on MacOS. Nobody want to write anything for PowerPC.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Now it's the opposite. And there is still a sizable crowd that runs parallel or bootcamp, although way less than early days of intel switch.
Bold move and even MS has seen the light and trying to switch to ARM with Surface Pro X but fail miserably due to legacy app.
But given Apple is working from iOS strength, dev may be able to switch to it much easier then we think. After all, Apple has been hinting the switch for 2 years now with iPad Pros.
What's going to be interesting is that dev will have to deal with both platform for years to come since I doubt people will ditch there recently bought MacPro or Macbook Pro anytime soon.
For the price, you can actually buy real intel based Surface that can really do real work. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
A13 is about 30% faster than SQ1 in Surface Pro X. And I think ARM Mac will debut with 5nm A14 chips that are expect to be even faster (~20%). So may be emulation hit won't be as bad for the transition years.

Pretty sure Mac market share is nearly as weak today as it was then.
In 07 when they transitioned macs were ~6-8% market share. Depending on who you believe it’s maybe as high as 8-9% now.
Essentially no one has ever developed for macs lol.
The only thing this transition has going for it is it’s essentially 0 effort to port a iOS app to Mac. But who wants to use an iOS app on a Mac lol.

No worries! Sent me on a short little wild goose chase to make sure that wasn't a recent feature lol. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I interpret this is as one step closer to merging iOS/iPadOS/Mac OS into one all-encompassing OS.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
It’s interesting. Apple has actually moved further than ever from one big OS the past few releases.
iOS. TVOS. iPadOS. Mac OS. HomePod even has its own custom OS lol.
Lumping it all together made iOS crazy bloated.

TVOS with tons of homekit shit is awesome. Google's fucking shit show of a google account migration fucked me over, because they stopped supporting the Nest Apple TV app. Doesn't support google accounts. Apple comes in and fixes it all for me with HomeKit for TVOS.
Fuck you google.

There was a bit about the new alliance they formed with amazon/apple/google + hue/ikea/smartthings plus others so hopefully the integration comes back along with proper homekit support. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

There is something toxic in that division and I have lost all faith in the brand

Well I am guessing since they rolled it under the google brand that there is still some hope. It isn't a chat app so I am not too worried they will kill it yetThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'll stick with my nest for now since I have no plans on adding anything to the system as I am full up for now. Amazons products seem to have much more in creativity and variety like spot light cams but I am guessing they will have to condense all the brands soon.

I’m gonna wait for the second gen MacBook with the new chips and see how they hold up.
But with iPadOS, is the MacBook still relevant?
