When you download the videos locally (I haven't done that yet but need to soon), does it allow you to pick resolution? Also, does it automatically make it into an MP4 before it lands on the iPad?

Yea, you can choose quality levels all the way up to no transcoding/original if the file is playback supported on the device.

You're right, but I'm less anal when watching on a plane to pass the time. Netflix has 'standard' and 'higher' quality options for offline and the lower one is pretty bad, but the high one should be good enough I think. I got the 256GB partly for this reason so hopefully the shows aren't too huge. Probably not worth the effort of getting the same shows and using AirVideo HD offline instead, but we will see.

I might be getting confused with Handbrake so I'll have to confirm this later but from what I recall, you can select the resolution quality of the video.

and you still have the option to convert the video only, the MP4/M4V file will be sitting on your PC waiting for you to transfer them at a later time.

Everything I have on my PC is MKV. Are you suggesting that it is going to duplicate everything as a MP4 on my PC side? I assumed it would just create the MP4 on my iPad with no duplication.

The conversion happens on the server side and sits on the server. Then you transfer it. You can then delete it (or leave it) on the server.

Oh ok, that's not so bad I guess - I'll just have to remember to delete all the MP4 copies once transferred. I saw the "downloaded files" button on the iPad within the app and assumed I would go there to browse my shows on the server, and then hit "download" on the ones I wanted transferred to the iPad. I haven't actually done it yet so this is all helpful, thanks.

The server side application will convert and upload to your device at the same time. You can specify if you want the server side app to keep or delete the conversion. If the MKV contains an apple playable codec, then it won't even convert. In variably, it always converts audio because of codec licensing.

Thanks. Can you force the conversion to MP4 though? It was mentioned before than playing non-MP4's kills the battery faster so I assume MP4 is always ideal.

Anyone have iOS 11 on their iPad Mini 2 (retina)? I am debating whether or not to install it for the GF since that is getting a little dated. Should I just stick with 10.3 or will 11 run just fine?

I just upgraded mine on the weekend and I haven't really noticed much of a performance increase/decrease. Seems the same.
