This looks like it's solder flux residue. I've never seen it turn grey like that but the outline of the grey spots matches exactly where the solder flux residue would be. No way is there metal shavings in the air or anything like that. A much more likely culprit for the reaction is heat, especially consider it's a video card...

Took some extensive googling (literally time consuming and extensive), but I think that might be it.
It's just weird because there's no sulfur smell in the air. AFAIK the air is crystal clean with no contaminants, numerous filters, not even dust buildup (surprising with how dry the air is).
