I like the shot of your son in pink. The star fish one is awesome too.

Thanks! Probably one of my favorite shots I've ever taken, and it hasn't really gotten much attention.

^so many good shots man, the maternity shot especially but yeah probably because the fad now a days is over-exposed shots.

btw.. wait what? you have a DF now too?
how are you liking it? the only Nikon digital camera that i would like own.

Bought a D600 and a D3s originally. Didn't really care for the D3s files as I've been spoiled by the 645Z, so I sold the D3S for profit and grabbed a Df. I know I mocked it when it came out, but that D4 sensor in a compact body is awesome.

Is the body really that compact? The size comparison pics seemed to suggest it wasn't that much more smaller than a regular sized DSLR. I had a lot of high hopes for it when it was announced, but when it came out it was a lot more camera than I expected. I was hoping for something more watered down and simplified.

The Df for manual focus operation/accuracy has always intrigued me, coupled with the stellar high ISO performance, because a lot of old nikkor AIS lenses are still pretty incredible and very reasonably priced. But the ergonomics has always been a little off-putting although I've never actually held one...

Recent talk on Fred Miranda of a D2Xs for people pictures (re: skin tones) is also pretty intriguing...

The Df feels a lot smaller than the D600, I didn't think it would based on photos. Completely overpriced new though, should be the same price as a D750.

It uses the same focus screen as the D800 and D600, no increase in MF accuracy out of the box. There are all sorts of aftermarket screens that you can get, like split prism or optimized for 1.4 instead of 2.8.

Agreed. Excellent technique but a nice little moment captured as well. Everything works together on that shot.

I suspect the Df will likely be refreshed for Nikon's 100th anniversary in 2017.

Just make a custom profile if you want different skin tones, it's a lot cheaper and easier than buying another camera While I'm not a big fan any default profiles in general, they still do a good job with skin tones and I have never had any trouble. There is nothing special about the D2X(s) IMHO, the almost-as-old D300 surpasses it in virtually every category, and you can load the D2X profiles (1,2,3) onto the D300 if you still don't want to make your own.

Rented the new Nikon 105/1.4 this weekend. Not quite as sharp or contrasty as the Zeiss 100MP from various tests I've done but it's not far off. Reliably getting a f/2.0-2.8 in focus just couldn't happen while MFing the Zeiss for people, and the Nikon does 1.4! I think this lens is a huge winner.

    Test shot from last night:

damn that is some nice background blur!
are you considering getting one now or keeping the Zeiss 100 instead?

IMO, if Nikon releases a digital version of the FM2 series (same size) and be brave like Leica and release one without a digital screen it might be a hit.
I would seriously consider one instead of the failed Df (still a great camera but not optimized for MF and size not any smaller than a Nikon DSLR)
