Is a car that’s meant to be self assembled a replica?

It is if it's designed to look like a pre-existing car. Like a lotus seven.

Caterhams aren't replicas at all. (I assumed that was a Caterham from the picture).

Seems like a stretch considering they just continued production of the seven and fully own the rights to the car. And have been doing so since… 50 years ago.

Is it? I’ll admit I didn’t check the chassis stamps

So are you calling it a rep of a lotus or a rep of a Caterham?

All alberta registered and road legal.
How did you get around the windshield/wiper/defroster requirements for the inspection?

That’s a replica of a “7”. Lotus sold the rights to Caterham, so usually any Lotus or Caterham is considered a non replica and other brands are considered replicas. The cost isn’t even remotely close though, most replicas I’ve seen are 20-50% of the price of a Lotus or Caterham, one of my friends got a half done replica project for $4k.

You're right. Why not just get a Caterham?

It has no windshield, thus doesn't need wipers or a defroster lol

Caterham doesn't build anything with a 2.3 Ecoboost, but also:
    1. You can't import already built cars to Canada due to our import laws
    2. The ones that exist here were built in Canada by a Caterham dealer in BC but the guy has since died
    3. Caterham will only sell kits to their registered dealers and there are none in Canada since BC bro died

I ask because I once went down the rabbit hole of contemplating a Westfield XTR and gave up because of the windshield (+ associated bits) requirements. If there's a way around that, then it opens up a ton of kit car options.

The main things were all lights and markers must be stamped DOT, must have drls, horn, hazard switch, all the functioning lights a normal car would, must have DOT approved seatbelts, and must have proper bumpers.
