Default Camping around Moraine Lake Area

I've never camped in Alberta, is it possible to get a tent camping site anywhere within a reasonable distance from here in late May?

Anyone have any suggestions or insights?

Still a bit of a drive but I stayed at Bow river campground one time and then drove from there. About 45 min to the Moraine road.

I suggest avoiding Bow River campground unless you enjoy the sound of highway traffic 24 hours a day.

If tenting (and okay hiking in there is more options but could also do kicking horse campground) I would suggest avoiding that shit show and hit up one of the areas near Takakkaw Falls

I suspect parks Canada sites are all booked but I’d look at Yoho to see if any available in that area, as it’s pretty close. Note that you can’t drive to moraine anymore and have to shuttle from lake Louise ski hill. You could camp at lake Louise but it’s very much RV camping and not a great tent experience.

That's fair, I just used ear plugs but not for everyone.

Looking in the park there is protection mountain campground. First come first serve and 15km from the lake road. Never been there though.

Parks Canada camping sites book us insanely fast. they are all open for the season now, so try anything in banff, yoho or kootenay park. Also try Alberta parks kananaskis sites.

In the column of things that I just learned today, you can't actually hike into Moraine lake until June?

Are there any other awesome pretty blue lakes around there that are accessible?

Rent an e bike and bike in before the gates open.. way better than when it’s slammed with tourists

How far in is it? If we can just navigate this ourselves, it seems ideal.

~10k one way. E bikes would be easy as it’s pretty flat. Just do it before the gate opens to avoid snow. I think they even plow it a week or two before the gate is open so staff can get in there
