Default Detailing an F50 - CQuartz Ceramic Coat + Zymol Vintage

Just throwing this up to share my recently completed project. After all the chatter about CQuartz I finally decided to give it a shot. Think it came out nice, bit of a pain though. Only time will tell how she holds up!

This was roughly 30 hours to complete start to finish. Enjoy the photos! Sorry I'm not a pro and they're just Iphone quality lol

    Start

Rough idea of the paint finish

    Impressions in the clear

    My work horse

Medium cut and Micro polish complete

CQuartz was applied, then the next day, Zymol Vintage

Tires were polished and waxed, as well as the rims. Rims also received CQuartz.

Didn't know F50s came manual! Thought they were all F1 paddle shift.

EDIT: Guess they were ALL manual. Cool.

Would you use the same coating on a new car, or something else?

Awesome work. Hands down one of my favorite cars ever built.

Curious - would you be open to doing a vinyl removal and detail on an 08 M3? The paint underneath the vinyl only has 32,000km so it shouldn't require too much work other than the removal of vinyl. PM me if your interested..

    Cheers,

Looks great Renee. Also looks like some interesting stuff tucked away up in the front of that room.

You can use this coating on any car regardless of age. The only thing to do before applying the coating is to correct the finish to your satisfaction.

Just out of curiosity, what would a job like this cost?

*Insert Fast and Furious Joke here - More than you can afford pal...Ferrari!*

But seriously, I'm so out of touch with detailing and prices!

    What?

A little out of my price range! I would like to get a polish on the S at some point but that just seems...high!

Going rate is $50- $75/hour for labour and materials so with 30 hours that's $1500-$2250. That's exterior, interior, and engine. The exterior polish is probably 50% of the time involved. You can easily go through a few hundred on materials for a job like this.

There are higher end shops are charging over $100/hour for detailing...

I need my truck quick cut and polished. I have a power polisher and was a detailer for a few years after HS. I just don't have anywhere indoors to do it.

When we were camping in Kimberly I took my truck down to the local body shop. He suggested that hand applied clear coat, said he bought into the franchise years ago. Glad I didn't go back!

I can mask and polish with 3m polish and pads, mostly from working in bodyshops for a few years doing wet sand polish blends on pillars et. Prepped and masked lots of cars in the booth so I know what is involved in the process. These bodyshop guys need to be paid more for there exposure to hazardous chemicals. I think bodymen are the lowest journeyman rate out of all trades, especially insurance company work.

Turns out I have a sensitivity to isocyanate so I don't even go near bodywork anymore. I need to have my tailgate on my truck fix some dents, mask perimeter and rock guard and may look for someone else to do it.

I don't even keep any 2 part paint/bondo at home at all

From your experience, how long would an S2000 take? I'm seriously in need of a polish!

What kind of correction are you looking for?
A single stage correction aiming for 70-80% correction will take significantly less time than a 3-stage correction (compound, polish and jeweling) at 90 to 95% correction.

I have done a 2-stage correction (compound and polish) on a Ceramiclear black C300 in about 7 hours using foam pads and a PCXP. The time is only for the correction stage. Not including prepping stage. MF pads weren't widely accessible yet, but would make the correction process a tad bit faster.

Unless it is a mint show car, I would not recommend a 3-stage correction. Chasing the last bit of correction is very time consuming, tedious and frustrating.

S2000 is a small car and doesn't have a roof so it wouldn't take too long. 3 hours to prep, 3-5 hours polishing. Add another hour if you're going with a nano coat.
