Default C-Train Derailment at Tuscany LRT Station

Was wondering why traffic was effed on crowchild this morning

"“The train had continued on beyond Tuscany station – which is the end terminal station – for whatever reason, and then went through the fence just off of the tail-track beyond Tuscany station – and then derailed.”"

Speed was on Movie Network last night. Don't think that's a coincidence.

Looking at the photos, the driver is lucky just to be alive

Driver was trying to do this over 12-mile. Would have been epic.

    I was more referencing this:

There were 2 passengers on the train according to the article. They were uninjured. Here's a pic from the scene:

Anyone else surprised that the woman who was injured was the driver? ?

“While traffic is flowing in both directions on Crowchild Trail, there are major delays in the area,” The City of Calgary said in a news release. “Motorists are encouraged to consider alternate options.
If I'm in Rocky Ridge going to DT, what are my options? Cut through Royal Oak to Country Hills Blvd to Downtown?

    Google barely shows any delays.

Must be a really boring job if you forget to brake the train.. You would think there would be a safety system in place for this. If speed is above X 100m away then apply brakes...

+1 to automate the trains. Do they really need drivers?

Looks like someone's gonna get remedial driving lessons after this

Hope the driver is ok as articles state she was brought in in serious condition. That c-train took quite a hit.

Am I the only one in here that is assuming it's the driver's fault and doesn't have any sympathy?

They could, but it would mean essentially revamping the entire infrastructure - costing billions, to save millions.

Can't do automated trains because we have too many on road intersections.

Automated trains and doors that actually shut on people and leave on time (instead of letting people hold them open for 2 full traffic light cycles while people sneak on) would do wonders for the system in general IMHO. It can't get much worse though, so really anything they do is an improvement. Not going to happen though haha, way too many other considerations.

The other thing that I was just reminded of that absolutely blows my mind, is the number of people who try and press the exterior button to open the train door and get on after the train starts moving. I see it with shocking regularity. These people think the door might open for them and they can hop on a moving train, and then look visibly upset when it doesn't open and they 'miss' the train.

It would have been fine if it was a Tesla train.

People tend to think they are entitled to something simply by penchant of seeing said item or come close to achieving said item just to have it taken away:

E.g., Sees a stop sign and expects to be the first person there. Another car gets there couple seconds early. Person still drives through like they have right of way and collision almost occurs. #mad.

E.g., Sees the last item on grocery store shelf. Walk towards it. Someone gets there first and takes it. #mad

E.g., Sees the train and expects to board. Gets there and train leaves. #mad

Sure you could - its just that it would take billions in new technology/ (eg. sensors for intrusion), new software, new trains, new control centre, time and testing.

Probably cheaper just to elevate the damn tracks

That train is pretty seriously mangled. I hope the driver will be alright.
