Drove passed this this morning... I've seen some wrecks, but nothing quite like this (the seats were out of the car, tells you a bit)

I was late leaving today, missed it by about 5 minutes, my neighbour saw the entire thing, said the pole literally split the car in 2... Pretty wild

RIP. It says he died in hospital. Amazing anyone could survive that at all - even short term.

Wow, wonder what he hit. RIP

At approximately 7:45 a.m., police say a 2005 Honda Accord was southbound on Deerfoot Trail near Seton Boulevard when the vehicle went off the road.
    ....
Those same bystanders administered first aid until EMS and STARS Air Ambulance arrived to transport the victim to South Health Campus in life threatening condition.
Won't ambulance be just as quick? Or a case that it's there anyway, let's use it.

If you are spinning out of control etc. don't look at the poles or you will steer into them ... and hit them!

Do they always just say "speed believed to be a factor" so at the end of the year they can pad their speeding related death stats and help justify more speed traps? If the guy was going 120-130 with the rest of traffic out there, speed probably wasn't actually a factor. If he was doing something dumb like 160+ or something, then yeah.

According to witnesses, he was speeding quite a bit. Not sure what that means though.

He did find one of the few concrete abutments in the area; combined with witness statements of a sudden veer, it almost sounds like suicide to me .....

"older" vehicle, high rate of speed, tires/suspension issues could cause a sudden veer, front wheel caught the grass and pulled him in. Or he was still fighting off a big night of drinking after the Canada game and was really late for work.

Plenty of larger concrete targets on DF and just before he could of tried to launch into the river over the bridge. Who knows.

Im having a hard time understanding your post. Maybe you can help further explain your reasoning.

You're telling us that a crash at 130 does this type of damage, and that since everyone does it its completely safe? Shouldnt that be even more proof to have people slow down?

No, I rather be dead than be a cripple.

Seriously tho, if he did do unreasonable speed in an old car like that, I'm glad the pole is there and he didn't take anyone else on opposing traffic with him.

Good old beyond, where an 05 Accord is an "old, unsafe car".

Guess all my shit is vintage.

what he means is that 120-130kph is the flow of traffic. not unsafe at all considering road conditions and weather.

the driver clearly made a mistake while driving or he had a mechanical failure that caused him to veer off the road suddenly. maybe a medical emergency? who knows?

I ask you, do you think this guy would still be alive if he was doing the speed limit of 110kph?
