Registered. Looking at the weather, I might swap the s2k out for the Mini though.

fuuuuuuuuaaaack I always miss it!
Last one of the year. Hopefully not the last YYC one for a while.
Reijo, what are the prospects of getting this lot again next year? Surely budget isn't going to leave this lot empty over time...

When I met with them at the end of July they said we would have it for a minimum of 12 months and following that they would give us 6 months notice (or 3? Can't remember for sure now) thereafter.
However they are planning on eventually developing the property ... so the clock is ticking ... the bad economy may be our friend in this case ... NDP is helping us!?

We have also had discussions about more events if the weather holds out and maybe a winter series of some sort. Stay tuned.

Event is full but we will have a wait list.

Got the email about some extra question, but now that registration is full, I can't seem to go in and modify it to answer the question?
Also, hilarious being the only one in STR. I realize there's a bunch of other ST cars registered, but I assumed there'd be more than just me.

Sign up for the waitlist. I recall seeing a few names on the list that pulled a no show. There always seems to be a handful of people that cancel last minute.Originally posted by 03ozwhip

Are they sticking to the 90 participants rule or do they let more people that show race too?
90 is already too many lol
There are 94 entered right now and there are always a few who do not show up ... just based on statistics ... could be anything ... broken car, family emergency, got too drunk the night before etc.
The 90 entries is a bit of a random number that we can handle easily at this time. As we refine the way we run events I'm sure the run count will go up: This also means all us individually have to step up the game to make the event flow smoothly ... such as showing up quickly for our work assignment, getting to grid in time, being ready to run when it is our turn (e.g. helmet and belts all on and ready to move forward etc.
The biggest factor? The number of runs is most affected by how quickly and closely spaced (time-wise) we send out cars. If we send out cars at 30 seconds apart no one will have a problem replacing cones and we can be relatively passive. If, as per the SCCA Nationals, we send out cars 20 seconds apart "religiously", then people "have to" RUN for downed cones ... have to be spread out to areas where cones get hit, with spare cones nearby.
At the SCCA Nationals in Lincoln, NE, you have two full-sizedcourses running at the same time with around 300 competitors per course. Everyone gets 3 runs which means there are approximately 300x3 = 900 runs per day per course! Plus re-runs.
How do they do it? Biggest factor is cars are sent out 20 seconds apart. If a starter sends out cars at 21 seconds, he is corrected and quickly. Otherwise they will be running into the evening.
Us? 90 cars? 6 runs each? 540 runs plus some re-runs. Can we do better? Absolutely! I have no doubts about that! Those guys south of the border are just as human as we are and if they can do it, why the hell can't we? I KNOW we are just as capable ... if we want to be.

Forecast isn't all that great: http://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/ab-52_metric_e.html
Dress warmly, and dress for wet stuff.

Yesterday the weather report said 40% chance of rain on Saturday. This morning (8 am), it says 30% chance of rain.
Looks like the trend for rain is going down but it is also looking cooler in general with the present high forecast as +3C for Sat. ... Snow or all-season tires anyone? Ultra high perf. tires will not work well in those conditions ... In the cold the high-perf rubber will become hard and you will not have much grip (unless they heat up ... e.g. a 2nd driver may be invaluable this time as well as tire blankets!).
But this is Thursday and this is Calgary. What will the weather be like? Probably look out your window or door on Saturday morning for a better idea! hahaha

If you know that you aren't coming on Saturday, please log into Motorsportreg and cancel your registration:
On your dashboard, click on the event title.
Click on the "Cancel registration" link
BTW -- don't cancel if you think you might change your mind and come anyway.

I've cancelled my registration. Had a scheduling conflict that I was going to get a babysitter for, but with the snow today, not worth it. With so many entrants and probably only 6 runs for the day, made the call to skip.
Oh well, hopefully these are back next year!
edit - oh, and how do refunds work? Can I just keep the $50 with you guys for next year?

Yes we can issue a credit.
"I don't look for something; I find something" - Picasso
Also note that there is a 5% refund fee but that is waived for the credit.
We are considering re-scheduling the event if the snow does not melt on the lot and roads......we'll see....wat , weather....might go look at the lot. Etc.

When will you send out cancellation notices, if it's going to get cancelled?
