Default Walk of the Earth getting grief for their rendition of "O Canada"

What do you think? Walk of the Earth is getting a lot of grief online about how they performed "O Canada" at the World Cup.

personally, I am ok with it. I have heard so much worse renditions of it with far too much creative licence, but this one...I like it. They did use the new lyrics instead of "all thy son's command" which kinda sounded weird, but I still thought it was good.

Thoughts? Too much creative licence or are you cool with it?

I've always said that someone needs to change the tempo to something faster or somehow increase the enthusiasm of the song. One thing I like about Black Hawks home games is the national anthem. Before most hockey games there's a lot of upbeat music, maybe player introductions, lots of excitement, then the national anthem comes on and you think you're at a funeral. Someone needs to do what Metallica did to Whiskey in the jar to Oh Canada, at least for the start of a hockey game, maybe not in parliament or maybe so.

I wouldn't call it hillbilly, but definitely had a bluegrass feel to it.

We need a new anthem anyways, no need to get bent out of shape over this rendition. The blonde is Canadian if I recall so at least it wasn't a blind american mishap.

Mr Gayes rendition was definitely a game changer, this is not.

Yes. I love all their cover songs and I thought the anthem was very good too.

I thought that was going to be WAY worse. That really wasn't that much of a departure was it? I have no issue with it. I watched a decade of The Nylons do much worse things to the anthem.

Are you referring to, "In all our lives command", as opposed to, "In all our sons command"? If so, I agree with that sort of change, and I doubt that "most Canadians" are aginst it. Well, unless you're a Muslim male.

But an even more productive change, would be to take out the reference to a sky daddy.

Either way, the change was prompted by feminists who through "sons" was sexist
As much as I despise modern feminism, they're right on this one.

I'm personally for the change. It is actually closer to the original English version anyways so I'm not sure why people are annoyed with the "change".

Personally I want to see the religious aspects removed. I don't believe they were in the originals and i don't think religion should play any part in our national pride.
