Board games seem to always be a fun thing with a good group of friends. Just curious what everyone is playing these days or suggest buying?

I own both the standard and explicit versions. Much fun especially with first timers where the game play involves reading every card out loud.Originally posted by msommers

Can't stand long board games, so I have been enjoying these games, which are all more 'instant gratification' and take 5 mins to teach people:
Bananagrams
Love Letter
Exploding Kittens
Pairs
King of Tokyo
Things In a Box
UNO (getting old though...)
Cribbage
7 Wonders
Guillotine
Cards Against Humanity was funny once, now everyone knows what the cards say and all shock value is gone so that one fizzled out pretty fast. Also some of the cards try to be so ridiculous that they aren't funny (IMO). Too many names of people in there as well, which aren't funny most of the time.

CAH is a tough game to play with people who either don't speak english well, or don't read out loud well. It makes for a lot ofOriginally posted by Mitsu3000gt

Crokinole but it might not be considered a board game by some.

I find it to be one of the more convoluted games.
One of my favorites, though you don't really need to buy their box set to play this; there's always the people who don't wanna play because "they can't draw". THAT'S THE POINT OF THE GAME. How is it fun if you draw a car and I guess car and the next person draws car and gets guessed as car?!?!?!
Enjoy going to Pips and just letting the dude there choose for me.

Settlers of Catan
Bang
Sheriff of Nottingham
Those are my three favourites. Expansions are available over the basic games for Catan and Bang.
Lots of favorites already mentioned, can add Munchkin and an old favorite - backgammon.
If you are looking for a place locally to pick up good board games that aren't to be found at Toys R Us, etc - there is a place in Westbrook mall called Sarah's Gourmet Gifts and Games. Weird combination of kitchenware and games, but they have CAH, Exploding Kittens, Catan, etc.
Revolution Games on Northmount and 14th street NW is good too.
