What class license do you have?

56 here. Took the GDL test years ago, passed first try. Did not spend "hundreds of dollars".

I'm surprised some of you guys still have GDL.
Why not take it off?
You're not even suppose to transport alcohol with it, let alone have a bit in your system.
Also more demerits and you can teach learners.


For me I got my learners on my 14th birthday, I got my gdl on my 16th birthday and I got my non gdl like a week after my 18th birthday.
I found the gdl test extremely easy, but to be fair it was a bit easier since I didn't have to do any parking.

I hear lots of kids aren't getting their learners right away? Seems like lots have no interest in driving. Anyone else notice that?

160 dollars Btax right there, some places charge more (because they can charge whatever they want to) have seen reclass fees of 60 on their own before. Adds up fast.

That is the first I have ever once heard of the concept of not being allowed to transport alcohol with a GDL. Pretty sure wherever you heard that its completely made up.

I approach it from the why take it off standpoint.

Don't have anyone to teach, nor any family members near driving age. - Not a benefit

Dont have and never have received a demerit. More demerits is of no benefit to me.

Don't drink and drive and have never been pulled over for drinking and driving. Increasing the BAC to above 0 is no benefit to me either.

Basically, best I can tell, its me writing a check to the government to pay for something I don't have any use for. Just as I have no use for a Class 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. license. Same concept, why doesn't everyone just sign up for those?

Like other posters above if I ever was told I need to get the GDL cleared off my license ( to drive company vehicles etc. ) I would go do it tomorrow. Until then my money stays in my wallet.

Passed my GDL 2 years after I got my full license and just recently got my motorcycle license.

You're right.
I swore that use to be a restriction while I had mine. I thought it was odd and hard to enforce, but made sense since you're not suppose to be drinking anyways. I thought that was one of the factors for convincing my ex-gf to get her test done.

Class 3 with Q endorsement. All training paid for by employer as it is a requirement of our job.

No doubt I'm not even 30 and when I got my DL, GDL was'nt even a thing guess beyond is a bunch of tots.


Wheres the option for a federal drivers license or international license? I'm surely not the only one to be driving around on one.

Alberta license is class 5 but I've got the paperwork to upgrade it to 3 with Q endorsement but i see no reason to give the AB gov money to reissue the license till I need it personally.

Class 56 here. I'm actually planning on doing the Class 4 knowledge test in the next 2 weeks or so.

Only reason why is to be more prepared if I want to jump into the ride share thing if Red Deer brings it in. (Which they have been discussing.)
