5/6 ...Former Probationary licencer? Think thats what we had under 18 back in the day.

Could a GDL go for there class 4 without getting a non gdl class 5?

If thats the case, might as well just get there class 4. Doubtful just curious since I don't know anything about GDL.

    Why not take it off?
You're not even suppose to transport alcohol with it, let alone have a bit in your system.
Also more demerits and you can teach learners.

I'm not on gdl but the gf is, can you post where it says you can't transport alcohol? I had no idea that was a rule and I can't find a comprehensive list with that on it. Only found the restrictions on page 10 of the link below but didn't see the transport rule.

Nevermind, missed your follow up post. Glad that isn't a rule!!!!

Does anyone know if you are a gdl and caught with say barely registering on the breathalyzer do you immediately get hit with impaired driving even though by law you aren't considered impaired? Or do you just lose your license for a bit? The gf is freaked out about that so if she has any alcohol at any time during the day she doesn't drive. Seems really damn stupid to me to have such ridiculous 0 tolerance restrictions.

You have to be OFF of GDL to progress into a Class 4.

    56 GDL

7 at the age of 14, 5 on my 16th birthday. No demerits, and have 0 intention of getting my non-GDL.

I sometimes operate a company vehicle, and they had zero issues with my license class during training/company certification. Insurance doesn't seem to give a fuck either, considering it lists me as class 5 w/ no specific designation. I've also rented vehicles in the states without issue. Car2go also doesn't seem to care.

    Class 16 for me.
If anyone is considering a Class 3, take my advice and go for the 1 instead. Spend the money and time
No offence to the class 3'ers

NO you don't get a DUI. You likely won't get impounded. A week suspension is what it is.

Class 5 back in the 90's before GDL was a thing.

Always thought about getting a class 1 just to have one in case of a job loss or something and I need to find other work.

A month suspension and it resets the clock on when you can take the advanced test since you have to have been suspension free for a year prior.

    16 here.

Got my 5 on my 16th birthday, a couple months before GDL was brought in. Class 1 was paid for through the job I had when I was 19. I've had it and not used it for a while now, so I'll probably renew it for another 5 years, and then go down to a 3, because I don't see really needing it, and I don't enjoy 'truckin'.

    class 5.

But I also have a FIA instructors license, which is useful for going to tracks out of province and avoiding the dreaded conversation every guy running a track event gets to hear from the random people they dont know; 'You put me in the wrong group bro. I know what I'm doing bro. I have a GT3 and won my class in autocross!'

Yep back in the day the Class 1 still showed a Q endorsement but now a 1 supersedes.
I'll also recommend High River Driving School over the bigger outfits in Calgary. Price and quality of learning is excellent.

Class 1 here. Had a 3 originally as work required it. Then upgraded to a one on my own dime about 6 years ago.
