I would like to know the details of the tender process for that project. I could have swapped for at least $100,000 less.

Pretty sure people on Instagram were just complaining that their selfies weren't as flattering with the original lights, gotta make sure everyone sees our pride and joy! /sarcasm

As a result, all 300 fixtures will need to be replaced ahead of the cold winter temperatures and it will cost taxpayers $700,000
    Ouch, over 2,000$ per fixture.

Though it does say its retro-fitting them to be LED fixtures and that the original ones were indoor rated and not meant for outdoors so at least this wouldn't be the cost everytime they need to be repaired.

So many lots of corners cut to even make the $25mm budget. Very impressive. They didn't do LED in the first place to save upfront costs.

Cold weather in Calgary? Bridge is outdoor? How does one predict these kinds of things?

Which begs the question, who the fuck designs a bridge for Calgary using indoor lights?

Does the city have the personnel to actually vet proposed project designs?

Probably the same one who doesn't verify the bridge measurements.

    I love this part too:
"The city is also spending $400,000 on a crosswalk on Memorial Drive to cut down on people jaywalking to access the bridge."

Good thing they built this bridge in a place that people want to cross the river at... oh wait, there's bridges already built nearby that have crosswalks leading to them? Wow.

Know what else cuts down jaywalking? A fence. Fences are cheap.

No kidding. Another cross walk is just going to cause more congestion on Memorial too.

I read or heard they didn't want to do a fence for aesthetics. Next thing you know it looks like McLeod Trail on one of the nicest roads

speaking of the bridge, i noticed a new set of lights going up.....but i am sure ppl are still gonna jaywalk cuz the bridge is right in the middle of both sets.

like fk why couldn't they just put the lights up right across from the bridge because they can but obviously too close to the other set right??? haha

It doesn't have to be ghetto chain link like they use in the south, this is the north, it can be a fancy fence.
