Time to buy a Williams jersey and cheer on a Canadian! At least until he ends up at Ferrari.

Please stay away from Ferrari at any cost
It would be his father's wet-dream for Lance to drive for Ferrari... He'll make it happen one day!
Awesome. Will be great to have a canadian to cheer for. F1 will be very different next year with all of the driver changes outside of RBR/Merc/Ferrari.
Ya I'll cheer for him, but just another rich kid getting pushed to the top.
Hopefully not another Pastor Maldonado.
"I come from money and I am not going to deny that," said Stroll. "But I believe I earned my shot in F1 because I have won every championship that I have competed in.
"Now, the FIA has put in the super licence for just that reason so people can't just buy their way into F1. You have to prove yourself and win in junior categories."
Should be interesting with Max Verstappen on the same grid.
Let's hope not...Originally posted by Bladeh

Here I thought being a rich kid was a pre requisite for being an F1 driver
Its not Nascar

Rich Kid yes but I don't think he got pushed to the top. His record speaks for him self. He didn't win the champion ship by 100 points because he is rich.Originally posted by danno

Not entirely true. Lewis is a typical example. If you have talent you will get your chance.Originally posted by killramos

He may have an impressive record, but don't you think that him being rich was a significant factor in that?Originally posted by ganesh

Jetting all over Europe, training by the best coaches, always with the best equipment; FFS, having unlimited access to your dad's private race track... all from the age you could walk!
I don't begrudge him at all and think the whole thing is pretty awesome, but it's flatout not true that being rich didn't play a huge part in his success.
All the best to him from here on... Dad's probably happy to have someone else paying the bills now!
I'm mostly jealous he was given the opportunity to drive from a young age. I feel that in sports it's a mix of raw talent and rich kids that had any sport handed to them.
I'm not knocking him down, he still had to work hard to get where he is, but I'm sure he jumped over kids more talented because his dad is a billionaire. Good for him I would do the same thing to if I was in his position.
If you have no talent it doesn't matter how much is in your bank balance it will not get you anywhere.Originally posted by you&me

Is it his fault that his dad is loaded with money? He got the seat purely on his merits not by any thing else.

Most of the rich and famous sportsman in the world were not born rich. In fact most of them came from average income families. There is always exception to the rule.Originally posted by danno

.
I'm not talking wealthy, I'm talking parents that have access to enough money to put their kids in all the training and camps to play sports that get the advantage. But that is besides the point.
Does he have talent sure, does he have more than people behind him I highly doubt it. Why do you think you need to bring sponsors to get a seat in f1??
He'll be with Ferrari in less than 5 years.
