AC only has the AInet alpine XM boxes and for now, that is all they have and can get right now. They have 20 left, i just got off the phone with Jay, and there is no more currently coming.
If this is something anyone wants i would get it soon.

been using sirius for a while now and it dosen't work great while driving in the mountains sometimes, buddy picked up an XM player at Auto Temp and said they have alot of units but just way over priced, I picked mine up for $105 US with the car plugin shipped taxes everything (including $50 rebate). When you hear songs you like you press remember and then anytime any of your favorite songs are on any station it will spot them for you. But it's great tuning into a specific genre or listening to talk radio
How much has everyone here paid for their XM units? I was told the XM Commander was $349 from Audio Concepts and the Roady was $330 at Autotemp air and sound. Is it just me, or are these prices higher than they should be? The units are between 150-160 american, so that should work out to like 220 canadian. Are the stores just adding a markup or does it cost extra to get the units into Canada?
so say i have a panasonic deck that is supposed to work with sirrius, will it work with xm?
we had a jetta in the shop with xm, really cool.

I figured out how to get XM radio for "free" after parking my car for the winter. You first must subscribe to the service (not sure how long) and then disconnect it for ~60 days and tell xm to stop billing you because your car will be parked for some time. I think what happens is similar to the Bell sattelite dishes, they send a signal to your box for ~60 days to "ban" your serial so you can't get free programming. Something like that anyway. But i parked my car for about 5 months and everything works perfect.
Thought some people might want to know...
I bought my Sirius unit (used) in the summer and had it installed recently...about 7 months after. It immediately worked without subscribing, so I figured the previous owner had not canceled his subscription or something. A week later, I was driving home from work and the signal cut out. It told me to call their subscription line and never worked since.
So, I guess I'll have to pay to play.

I got my XM working on the weekend and all i can say is go get one now this thing is fucking cool
Yeah, I ended up buying a roady unit last week. I've had it running in my car for a few days. Very nice! It's overwhelming, the amount of channels available. I can't stay on one channel for more than one song. I keep scanning through to see what else is on. I just bought a power adapter for it, and I have it working in the house now. Great unit!
Now what I need to do is find a way to boost the damn pre-out signal on that Sirius unit. It's faaar weaker than my system's RCA line voltage, and I don't want to waste my money on a line driver.

are you guys using the fm transmitter? how is the quality?
You can actually buy US mailing addresses.. They are like 29.99/month or something. They just send your mail to your real address every couple weeks or however often you want.. It's pretty cool, but I forgot the place that does it.Originally posted by sputnik
so how does one go about getting a US mailing account if we have no friends or family that would be willing to forward over your bills.
I know you don't smoke weed. I know this. But I'm gonna git you high today. 'cause it's Friday, you ain't got no job, and you ain't got shit to do!
^That's not worth it. Any shipping/recieving outlet across the border should be able to help you out with that. Use their address as registered address, and use your home address for billing.
Because there's different ways to hook up Satellite radio, it's not dependent whether or not the deck is capable. All you need is a deck with an auxiliary input/output (ie Alpine Ai-NET, Multi-output). There should be adaptors for every unit to work with the systems.

According to www.xmfan.com u don't need a US address. Just make up a valid address or use one you find in a magazine. Billing goes straight to your credit card and the poor sucker whose address you used will just receive some welcome to XM package in the mail.
Hey guys, new member from the states. Had a question maybe you could answer. I just recently purchased an XM Radio boombox & will most likely get the car kit. I'm also planning a trip to NW Ontario this summer and by the sounds of your posts, it looks like I'll be able to get a signal, yes? And will the border guards give me any trouble about my satelite system? Just curious...
Thanks in advance.
BTW, satelite radio kicks ass!
ROFL, no.

Hi everyone!
I want to get a Sirius receiver for my car. If I understand correctly I can use my friends US address and my Canadian credit card. Now there was someone mentioning that you are not allowed to get a receiver shipped into Canada. Is this true? I know that CBC, Standard Radio and Sirius have teamed up to distribute Sirius Radio in Canada but it won't be ready till fall or later. I think I am suffering brain damage from lack of good dance music here in Ottawa. All we have is a RAP station.
xm and sirius are available in canada...the xm commander module is available at soundsaround....sirius is a lil bit harder to get a hold of but it will be easier to find in the next 6 months or so...
