Default Monitor goes blank every few minutes

This is weird an annoying, I run my laptop through a monitor when I'm at home, and the monitor goes totally blank for a couple of seconds every five minutes or so. It's acting like a loose connection, although I have checked both ends of the cord and that isn't the case.

It also does this with two different laptops, so I'm guessing it's something in the monitor. Or could it be something internal to the cable?

Any troubleshooting tips? It's a cheap-ass bottom of the barrel LG monitor, but it's all I need and I would prefer not to replace.

Sounds like either the A/GPU is overheating (if separate) or the monitor is done. You'd need to test the monitor from a different source.

If it is the monitor, sometimes its also the power supply transformer (power brick) thats gone.

If possible, restore the monitor to default.

    Some random troubleshooting steps:

    - Try the other input (DVI if you are using VGA, or vice versa)
    - Try a lower resolution
    - Try resetting the monitors settings
    - Try a different cord, could be a damaged/crushed wire inside it
    - Smash monitor with a hammer

Try connecting the laptop to your TV. This way you know it is not the cable at fault if you get a picture. Isolation of variables. Sounds like a toast monitor from here.

The plot thickens! Tested with a second monitor, and the behavior continued.

Decided to try connecting with an HDMI cable, and oddly, the monitor gives the errors "no cable connected". The computer can "see" the monitor however in the intel HD graphics control panel and says it's working correctly.

    Ideas?
