Instant Plumbing just came in at 4K, plus $1300 to run some gas lines.

I agree. I think Clearvue's quote is nuts. They gave me 4 quotes from their tool. The difference between the first and the second was this single line item for a thermostat. Premium PrestigeIAQ thermostatkit. The difference in the quote was $1100. It's a $260 Thermostat.

Honestly, I think they saw the neighborhood. Looked at the house, looked at me (dressed for meetings), and jacked the quote.

Well all I can say is make sure everything is listed in the scope. I've never seen a bid difference of almost 400%. Ever.

Yeah.. I don't know. I have one other quote coming in from Mr Rooter, and his rough streetside estimate was in line with Instants. All 3 of them walked through the house with me and looked at all the same stuff. I may do one more as I have one other plumber I can check with, a personal reference one. But I'm not sure if I want to do another walk through and quote. Depends on where the my 3rd comes in before I go to a 4th.

My house is 26 years old with Polyb, been here for the last 8 years, no leaks. Being outside the city though, my water isn't chlorinated and I have the pump control set at 40psi cut in, 60 psi cut out.
I know there is concern for the polyb and Pex but lately i've been seeing a rash of water softener blow ups, I've seen 3 in the last month fail and cause some major flooding in the city. The last one I had to go on a scavenger hunt in the mechanical room to find the parts from the bypass valve.

Clearview are scammers. Fucking guys quoted me $4300 for a hot water tank install.

Clearvue are scammers. They have a job book with outrageous pricing. Makes it look more official.

They wanted $900 for a kitchen faucet install. That's not including the fixture.

Ya, plumbers pricing is all over the map. I have had good luck with Pete the Plumber but Instant Plumbing sounds reasonable as well. I've never had 4x quotes for the same SOW but certainly seen 2-2.5x

After getting bent over by ARO Plumbing (also know as Need a Plumber) I did tons of research on who I should have called in case of a plumbing emergency and nearly all the reviews on Pete the Plumber were good. I haven’t actually used them before but based on what I read online I would call them in the future.

Do not ever use ARO Plumbing or Need a Plumber.

Mr. Rooter was right in line. About 1k more but they projected a bit more work. I'm going to book with Instant after I update the quote with another NG drop.

Instant Plumbing completed the job and came in at about $6k overall, including pulling a new gas line for the stove. They did a pretty good job and I don't have a huge amount of holes to fix.

I do not, but the repair is pretty easy DIY if you have good access to the leak.

It's on a tight bend as it goes from the joist vertically through the floor. Bent too tight it looks like. Have precision coming to do the repair
