    It's not illegal anymore. EFF got their exemption last year for DMCA specifically for automotive software. You can partially thank VW for that, as that was a clear cut example of why people should be able to dissect/understand and tinker with automotive software to find cheats like VW had.

    You cannot diagnose modern vehicles with out scoping sensors, that is definitely not illegal.
    I don't think you are going to be able to do this project with out programming and coding. Unless you want a bare bones body that just goes really fast, if that is the case there are way cheaper and easier cars to make fast.

    I have nothing to contribute but have to say I'm enjoying reading about this swap and the challenges and would read the hell out of a build thread for this car if it exists somewhere.

    I would talk to this guy and stick with OEM ECUs and TCUs to save you a ton of time and money. There are direct flights between YYC and ORD when it's time to do the actual coding.

    From his linked in profile, I'd say he's probably the only guy on this continent that can get it sorted out based on the scope of your project with the least amount of pain. The only other company that I've seen pull off OEM swaps is GAD motors out of Germany, the guys that swapped in a CLS63S 4Matic drivetrain into a C63 Black Series.

    edit - one more thing I want to add, I believe if you go with a standalone route, your dash won't work anymore. It all runs off canbus, and you'll pretty much need to build a new dashboard for it. Same with the stereo. Have to go full race car.

    Keep us posted on the project and which direction you're going. Love to see big projects like this!

    I could have thrown a BW S366 on the 2J in my IS like every single turbo 2JZ lately and made a little more power, but instead I have something unique and much more torque than any 2J down low than I've ever found a dyno for.

    I like this C class swap for the same reason that it's more unique. If I had my choice for this car from the start, a couple things would have been started differently.... but overall the parts combo is pretty decent. There may be a few things that come up that I can't possibly get around, but the checklist has already been coming back better than I expected.

    Some of the stuff GAD has with the newer v8 turbo motor, and AWD swaps are super drool worthy and would be sweet to see around here.

    7.3 Brabus motor swap is pretty cool and more on the unicorn scale of rarity probably. Doesn't seem like a ton of those motors around. On the upside, this V8 fits nicely and I don't think it takes much for the M113K to be on par power with the boost to make up for the displacement of the M120 http://www.boostaddict.com/content.p...eel-horsepower
