    Correct.

Your pass EXPIRES April 2016? Or you BOUGHT it in April 2016?

Any pass purchased in 2016 is valid until the same month 2018, and therefore you do NOT need to acquire a 2017 pass.

    From National Parks:
Passes bought in 2016 are valid for two full years after the date of purchase.
Jesus...I've never seen so much mass confusion and hysteria about such a simple concept. (This is directed at the comments on their Facebook page, not beyonders)
"OMG I NEED TO GET MY PASS NOW!!"
"WAHHHH...YOU'RE LETTING TOO MANY PEOPLE IN"
"I CAN'T GET INTO THE WEBSITE IT'S DOWN"
    "I CAN'T FIND THE PROMO CODE...OMG OMG!!!"

Holy fuck...it's like everyone's brain turn's to mush the second the word "free pass" is mentioned, and no one bothers to read anything.

If you don't already have a 2016 pass, you can just pick up the free 2017 pass at any park entry gate.

Yeah that's really weird. I can see once or twice, as just being someone who didn't read/see your pass.
Just keep in mind: "voluntary compliance"

I just tried it from work and it worked for me.

When the page loaded to proceed with the checkout, I updated it to two passes which gave me the ring of death. Waited for a minute and clicked on the checkout button which pushed it through and I was able to enter my address to complete the transaction.

A couple of friends said they were having issues but closed out of their browsers, went back in and were able to order theirs.

Site isn't allowing me to add the pass to cart.

I thought parks were bad before, they're going to be such a shit show now.

They got me last year lol Went for the day and when we got out there was a ticket saying we had the option to pay the admission price before we left or risk future problems if we went in the park again. Went to the building on the main street and showed them the ticket and paid the admission, had i known this i wouldnt have lol

Im curious to see what this actually does to the parks attendance. Its not like its really that much to go anyways.

So, what is the maximum number of consecutive days that one is allowed?

Allowed to what? You can't "squat" in a national park. and camping costs about $30/day for a maximum of two weeks.

I dunno. People will squat anywhere, even a British castle.

Sure, a small fee seems reasonable for rangers to tend the parks - but realistically the population density is so low as soon as you go off a trail its pretty much empty.

I do wonder if three to eleven million illegals will be rounded up and kicked out of the US in the next four years - Will Canada become a destination point, or will the cold weather be a big deterrent.

    A few things:
    1) There is no time limit on getting the pass.
    2) There is unlimited supply...it's free for everyone.
    3) You don't have to get them online. You can pick them up at any Park entry gate.

What is the point of even obtaining a pass if it's free for everyone? Seems like a massive waste of money for Parks Canada to print the 2017 passes, with probably double the normal demand because they're free.

On top of that ticket payment is voluntary so you never really need one.

It's equally amazing how many people will now be planning entire trips based on $20 savings (not people here necessarily, just in general).

This was my thought. If its free to enter this year, why waste tax dollars printing/shipping passes for everyone. Why not just say no pass needed and call it a day. I saw on the news last night they were talking about this and the free passes are costing taxpayers approx 5 million dollars... I suppose with the influx of people headed to the parks this year, there will be plenty of opportunity to recapture some lost revenue with speeding fines in the 90km/h zone.

The pass enables Parks Canada to continue recording the number of visitors during 2017, thus allowing the Agency to better tailor their programs and services for visitors and ensure they meet their expectations.
The printing of passes is such an infinitesimal cost of their half a BILLION dollar annual budget, it's not even worth considering, when compared to the information it will give them.
