Why not just pick one up at the gate when you come through, or at any Parks Info office?

Or not even bother. You don't HAVE to have one. Parks Canada is just "asking" people to pick one up so they can interact with you, give you information, etc etc.

Yup... and I live here. Im actually subletting my place for parts of July and August as occupancy for most hotels is 105%. Im taking my family on week long road trips to the BC and the western USA.

If you think Banff NP needed the tourism. think again. numbers last year were 2.5 million visitors in July and August alone. We get 4 million all year. that's double any other NP in Canada. No need to offer free access to the busiest NP. just make it the month of July for Canada's birthday. In the end free access is really on the tax payers dime.

It is kind of funny when people ask "hey man did you order your free pass?". No.....I buy one every year so they just tack it on to your 2016 pass, because I actually enjoy the outdoors not just free shit

Haha please! No, just that maybe if this is the only reason you're going to use the parks then you probably don't need to be there.

This is just ruining it for those that pay every year, super frustrating but I guess it's only a year.

It isn't as if the free pass is just for Banff though, and I don't think an exemption should be made just for Banff National Park because it's the busiest one.

if the goal was to get more people into more parks, then that's exactly what they could have done. Or at least made it free for Canadians only..

Giving them away free, and shipping worldwide first class free is truly retarded, considering you can get the pass at the gate. At least this could have forced tourists to stop and interact with someone, and get told not to feed the wolves.

It's gonna be a bad year to be an animal in Banff

That I agree with. When I first heard of it, I thought it was only Canadians. I guess they're trying to get more US tourists up here though? You know anyone coming from overseas isn't going to skip on the paid pass after coming all this way.

You realize you don't NEED to have one right?

The only reason they want you to pick one up is so they can give you the little info brochure on rules, regulations, how to interact with wildlife etc, etc.
If they see a car parked without one they just slip one on your windshield.

Although I've been here everyday for 3 weeks and nothin.....

Every time you come through the gates you can get another one.

We grabbed one at the gate the other day because we forgot ours..they didn't even forcefeed us any info. Pretty much a 'heres your 150 year anniversary pass, do you have any questions!? See you guys later!'

Also, i got a 'ticket' on December 29th as I drove the GF's car into Johnson Canyon and forgot to move the 2016 pass over to her car. Pretty much was a 'present yourself and this ticket to a park gate, to buy a pass for the day'..

i tossed it..will see if she gets a notice in the mail haha

And with it was the Parks Canada Brochure that gives info on different aspects of the park. Thats their "interaction" with you.

No?! Haha....you got the "value" package. Thank you for saving us taxpayers money.
They're supposed to stuff the pass inside a shiny 3 page brochure.

I ordered one in December, not knowing my wife had already done so. But I didn't get any email and no order number showed up when I checked out. Same thing happened to the wife.

So last week I figured I would give it another try. This time an order number appeared and I promptly received an email notification. Excellent. Again, unknown to me, my wife had the same thoughts a day or two before me and ordered another. Worked for her this time too.

I only found this out because two passes arrived the same day last week. We think they are probably the first ones. We'll see if two more come in a few weeks. Lol

I was going to "surprise" her because I thought she didn't know (she doesn't keep up on news). I don't know why she didn't tell me. Oh well, we'll have at least one extra to give to family.
