Don't worry. Only the top 40% of earners will need to pay the tax.
Around 3 venti latte/month is my estimate from my energy use.Originally posted by dirtsniffer

What, the oil patch hasn't provided enough economic rents over the years to cover the costs? Or was that squandered already?

Natural gas crazy inexpensive. Must raise price to keep machines employed! Rise of the machines!
Call in Rob Anders to have humans carry natural gas on backs to keep economy going.
Cocoa $12,000 per ton.
Will it not affect other costs like food, plane tickets (I know some will be exempt). City of Calgary will spend about $6MM more per year on fuel.Originally posted by Xtrema

Carbon tax lasted 2 years in Australia. Let's see how long it lasts here.
I had gotten an Enmax email last week about the carbon levy. If I use the same amount as I did last year, it will amount to $96 more.
Of course, we're not expecting a mild winter this year so that is a conservative estimate.
Will last as long as the NDP are in powerOriginally posted by Aleks

Probably longer, Liberals want to impose it federally.Originally posted by quick_scar

Yes but depending on your family income, you could get rebates that may negate some of this.Originally posted by rx7boi

The real cost to the average person will be the increased cost of consumer goods assuming businesses pass their carbon tax costs to consumers through increased product pricing and I haven't heard of any rebates/tax rebates that will counter that.
Yeah, yeah, the NDP speak of this and that that they'll create or supplement in the form of programs or incentives from this newly created source of revenues but will any of us really truly benefit from that?
Well...
You could look at carbons as the same overall effect as smoking cigarettes. Which is a stretch, but *it is* there.
I wish people would stop idling their cars for so long in my parking area because I'm sucking down their fumes because my furnace intake at knee level, exhaust level is right there.

Works out to be ~3% increase in energy cost for me. So I expect everything will cost 5% more as businesses like to pile it on.Originally posted by Aleks

The problem is, with Trump threatening to remove Mexicans illegals, grocery will go thru the roof but Carbon Tax will get the blame.

well i've used 2500L of gas this year, so that alone will be an extra $10 per month. then another 10 for ng, dunno about electricity. everything we buy will be impacted.Originally posted by Xtrema

If your 2500L is for your work, you will pass on the cost to your customer.Originally posted by dirtsniffer

If not, you will start to find more efficient way to conduct business which is the whole point.
Electricity should be ok for now. There is more threat on price with removal of coal than Carbon Tax.
Now that's based on Notely's tax at $20/ton. If liberal wants to do $50/ton, we will be looking at another GST on our hands.
If your home costs too much to heat, change your home!
Isn't that what she said about cars?

There should be no rebates associated with this at all. The GHGs produced by "low income" households are no less harmful than those produced by higher income households. Since this tax is apparently about saving the environment and dropping GHG levels, everyone should be paying for their contribution.
But we won't see that since it would hurt the NDP voter base. It might even buy them a few votes when some people see a cheque every year saying it's offsetting the carbon tax. Should be interesting i the first three months when people see everything they buy go up in price, the people protesting the tax now probably won't be considered so crazy then.
