Looking for a Garage heater

OK, was set to pick one of these up on Saturday and get it all wired in...

And then I noticed on the site it says 7-10 days for delivery...

Are there any places in town that might have something similar in stock that I can just walk in and buy one?

Why not stop by Chinese Auto? They have a few choices for mountable electric space heaters

Did you get a 240V outlet added to your garage? And if so do you mind telling me how much that costs? You can PM me if you like.

I am considering getting something like that as well. I just bought a 120V space heater to see how much it helps and if I will be happy with it or not.

I tried the 110V option, but they just can't put out enough heat to warm up a standard double car garage, or at least not mine, and I have insulated and poly'd mine.

My garage is detached, but already has 240 wired out there on 2 x 30 amp dual pole breakers. In the garage sub panel, there are 2 x 15amp 110v breakers, So I already had 240V out there.

I just have an electrician buddy coming over to install a plug, breaker and run a bit of wiring. Including the heater I posted at the start, It was all going to come in under $300.

If you have to run the proper 240 wire out from your house, it is going to cost a lot more. I have been hearing people say it has cost them $2k plus.

That's not bad, but I have to keep it under about 5000w otherwise the current infrastructure I have in place will just keep popping the breakers.

I understand your concern, but honestly, I think the minimum delivery time I've ever seen on costco.ca has always been 7-10 business days, even though I've always received things in no more than 5 business days.

EDIT Sorry, just saw where you wanted it done this weekend. Even 5 days won't help you there

That aside, places like Acklands/Grainger, Gregg Distributors, and even Canadian Tire (http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/0522638P.html) will have something similar, if you don't like the Princess Auto ones listed above.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm installing my natural gas heater tonight and will be parting ways with that model of Canadian Tire 5,000W heater. If anyone's interested throw me an offer. I changed the plug end out on it since the one it came with didn't fit my 220V. As well, you'd be able to come hear it run (They aren't the quietest units) and feel the heat output

I know way way back in the say when I worked at RL Brews we used to sell those types of heaters.

I assume you had it in your garage? How well was it heating it?

I have that Canadian tire one. In a double insulated garage (half of roof not insulated) in about 15 minutes it was pretty warm. Thermostat is great too as I put it low on some really cold days and it kept the garage a decent temp with no noticeable increase in electric bill. Home depot and Lowes probably have them as well.

I have it at the lowest setting and it keeps it above freezing. If I crank it, 24x24 garage with 10 ft walls insulated can warm up quite nicely. Takes a bit of time but about half hour and it's up there in heat.

About $30 a month when it's cold out from what I have seen from my unit and a friend with the same one.
