Default VR movies and games, where to get them?

Never tried VR before of any kind, unless you count the virtual boy nintendo made in the 90s...

Took the plunge and bought a set on amazon today, seems to be good reviews...

then I realized, I have no idea what kind of media I need to use these...so for all you that have tried this stuff out, where do you get your media from?

I will be using the headset with my Samsung S7 if that matters.

YouTube has a VR button I've noticed. Start there.

If you have an S7, it is probably best to return that and get a Gear VR. That is just a google cardboard based device where as the gear has it's own app store through samsung with VR apps.

You tube content sucks, low quality and takes forever to load... Also. It makes my eyes go all screwy.

That's a "VR" headset in the same way a smartphone is a gaming computer. I mean, you can consume some VR content with it, but for the majority of games and movies, you need something with a bit more power behind it.

Sony has the PSVR, and of course there's the Vive and Rift. Unfortunately, we're still in "first-next generation VR". It will be a while before we see true VR headsets sub-$250.

EDIT: I've got a Google Cardboard I'd be happy to give you. It will let you watch the same VR content as what you bought, and it's free

Yeah I would think about returning that one and get the Samsung VR Machine. Of course it won't be the same as the VIVE or Rift, but hey you are also only paying $99, not $900.

Once you get the Samsung VR, it'll make you install the Oculus VR Software, and through the Samsung VR/Oculus portal you will have access to alot of different VR contents, including different apps and games.

Alot of the videos in there are just cool, 5 mins videos.. like you are swimming through the ocean, or front row at a concert, or in the middle of Tokyo with people walking around you, or following Shaq around. the Netflix App is super cool too and I use it alot when I'm travelling for work.

Anyway it's not interactive like the Vive but a cool experience for $90.

So yeah.. grab the Samsung VR. Download the Oculus VR program. Enjoy. check out the Apps here: https://www.oculus.com/experiences/gear-vr/

Never tried it and don't even own a VR set. Just sharing that I saw the link.

Waiting till PornHub updates to VR.

Get Gear VR and return this crap.

The problem with the controller is that not many games are designed with it in mine because it's not part of an established platform.

VRSE is the movie app you want. Selection is limited and requires download of each clip instead of streaming. Streaming on youtube is mostly low quality but some are not bad...

Cardboard Camera - Make you only 360 photo sphere
Street View - You can find a lot of user generated 360 photo spheres.

I'm pretty happy with Google Daydream Headset so far, it's easily provided me with $100 of of entertainment and the remote works great. For the price it's hard to complain. I can't look at any screen that close up for too long though or I get a headache haha. The PC ones are no doubt more powerful but I have yet to see even a hint of lag or stutter in the content available so far.

I tried an Oculus Rift in Japan and the screen quality was so bad it completely ruined the experience. The pixels were so obvious it didn't even look like VR at all it just felt like I was looking at a TV from 20 years ago through a screen door.

Definitely a technology that's still in it's infancy.

Which rift was that? DK1, DK2, or CV1?

I have no idea, so it's possible it was an older/crappier one but it was pretty terrible. It was also in Japan, so I would have expected it to be some awesome new one that North America will get 5 years from now

Make sure this one works with your S7... I know they've released a few versions over the years to accommodate the different headset. I have the 2015 one for my S6Edge + but I'm not sure if you need the 2016 edition for the S7.. double check..
