Last night I fixed a VHS tape of a movie I got.. (I didnt realise the tape was broken (It broke right @ the end of the clear leader tape))

I opened the shell and got completly aggravated as I cant ever get those 2 pieces in the back BACK IN once they come out..... (I dont know how they go in and when I open the shell, they usually fall out) I was almost going to give up and throw it away but then I remembered I had a blank cassette I could use the shell from.......

I carefully opened THAT SHELL and looked closely inside on how to remove the spools without those pieces coming out!

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTFYh1V-JmW81E-0grpXhsOky2hN9_emN__hm0gYsLXyEKWAeWWVtlLUfw (Those things behind the spools)

I opened the take up spool and took the old lead tape off and just clamped the play tape to the spool (The dark tape) ...... Finally got it back in,screwed together and I tried it and SHE WORKS WELL!!!!!!!!

This is the first vhs tape I have fixed properly!! (With those pieces still there (I didnt wanna lose this 1st release of this movie..... A very good/scary Paul Newman movie! (1981 - Absence of Malice)))

    Its rewarding!!!

Had to double check the date on your post
Kudos for having the patience. I haven't spliced a tape (vhs or Cassette) for decades.

When I worked at Radio Shack as a teenager in the 70's (yes I'm old) my boss used to repair 8-Track tapes. What a pain those were.

My last repair was an LG LCD monitor with a shorted FET, shorted zener, and a blown fuse.
$6.79 worth of parts and another decent monitor avoids the recyclers.

Replaced an oil filled shock absorber on our washing machine. With the broken shock the washer was shaking itself into the middle of the room on its high speed spin cycle.

Replaced the thermocouple on my gas water heater. Pilot was not staying lit. Still not staying lit after replacement. Suspect gas valve. Time for a new water tank

Yesterday, changed out burnt out lamp on MIL's cheesy fake Christmas tree - was way more difficult than it should've been. To do yet, bathroom light fixture (1 side dead), multitool and toilet at uncle's place. Also if I get real energetic, left channel of an amp and charging port on a mini laptop.
    Will fuck off, again.

Next up is a relay replacement on my Hoyme Fresh air control for the furnace. Have to wait until tomorrow for B&E to open to go and get a relay.

Very few things I won't at least try to do myself. Most shit is so easy yet people pay $$$$ for someone to come in and do it. Some shit I won't do as I know I won't do as good of a job, but for most basic jobs, why not at least try.

Dryer thermostat went bad. Had to take it apart down to the shell to replace a part the size of about 15 stacked dimes. But $30 and two hours beats a few hundred for a new dryer or service call.

Unclogged my kitchen sink, after bragging a couple days before how it has never clogged and how much we use the garburator. Took a 25 foot electric snake from home depot.

I can confirm the guy that rented it before me didnt clean it and that he had a clogged toilet.

Picked up some silicon treadmill lube for the pinball machine to fix a sticking part and dabbed up the spinners. Runs like a dream now. Gotta love lube.

    Good thread.

Mine was on my car. The tubes that supply wiper fluid to the windscreen. They were so old that they just fell apart.
The tubes cost $5 & took about a hour fiddling about.

Alternator on my 2009 Murano, took 10 hours because it's near the bottom of the engine bay and there's no tutorials on the interwebs...

Good thread - I replaced the door frame and door between our house and garage after my 2 year old locked my wife in the garage....with no keys, wallet, or phone. After a quick 911 call from a neighbour, the firefighters knocked the door down and free'd my two sons

Edit - 911 was required as our 2 month old was inside with our 2 year old who loves to roll around with him. I was in another country and we hadn't given a spare key to anyone.
