I thought it's always "Don't be poor"
therefore Maldives is the only appropriate tropical vacation??
99% of Hawaii is great. But Waikiki is a shitholeThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

2 complete different places. We wanted to move to hawaii when we first went because it had it all but CR is kind of a one and done vacay lol We did 2 weeks there and only spent a night in the city and the rest was going from town to town and we had a damn good time exploring. It was super safe for us but with young kids we didint get to risky with where we went. I only found this out after we got home but CR is supposed to be one of the top places for hoes lolThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Cost wise for us i would totally say CR can be comparable to hawaii, as mentioned we went with young kids so safety and cleanliness was the most important. This was 8 years ago but i recall us spending around 300night for a hotel and we did 5 days at the westin and that was about 600night. Food costs back then were crazy expensive too but then again that was probably because we were eating at the "tourist" restosThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Went up there for lunch… saw people riding dirt bikes in the street with no shoes or helmets… real DR type vibes
Better than the guy I saw take a dump on the street outside of the Westin
I learned to surf on Waikiki over 20 years ago and remember it being awesome. Shame to see it get so bad.
Week one the weather was perfect , week two weather sux but we still did basically everything we wanted… it is just not that good that made me want to go back … seen everything I needed to see, it was not that great and moved on …This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

What is so good about Mexico?
I’m always curious what people find good vs bad.

Did you go to Hawaii expecting a cultural experience or something?

Did you only go to Oahu? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
It's the island with the least to offer, IMO. Honolulu is basically LA in the middle of the pacific ocean.
Probably oahu and maui, most do that for the first time there. We actually like to spend some time in oahu for the action but no way id do 2 weeks there. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Kauai and Maui, in that order, were my favourites after seeing them all.

You never go any where in the USA expecting a cultural experience, if it is not a dumpster fire it is a bonusThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I go for Leonard's malasadas. Enough reason for me.
Discovered Alicia's Market poke bowls on this last trip.

Leonards is the first thing we always do the first morning in OahuThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
KCC Farmers’ Market Saturday morning as well especially after hiking the Diamond Head. We discovered Da Sugar Mill (https://dasugarmill.com/) at the market and hopefully we can try their restaurant next time we go to Oahu
Alicia's Market is on my to try list, there's also Tamashiro Market.
Never had issues with Waikiki and we stayed there for the whole week last February, had a car rental so we still went around the island during the day, otherwise it was beach bumming, light hiking with a toddler, Foodlands for poke, 7-Eleven or ABC for heated food and lots of shave ice
Tamashiro looks awesome. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Get the creamy horse radish sauce for the beef at Alicia's for the $1 extra.
White crab is full of umami.
