Hawaii is expensive and over rated, glad I went once but have no desire to go back.

I would rather go to Mexico , but not go to Mexico all inclusive, there is great restaurants that you can get better food off the on resort.

Jamaica or DR I would go all inclusive

All inclusive typically has shit food, no? (Not from experience just from everyone I’ve ever heard). Way rather go find street meat or a dive bar

Buffet is shiet food … going to the restaurants on resort is generally good and you have to remember 5* third world does equal 5* 1st world, but I have had some fantastic meals in third world countries.

I got served a tuna roll at an a la carte at an all-inclusive in the Caribbean once.

It was made with canned tuna.

And yes. I was a student at the time so it adds up.

I think they called it a 5 star resort lol

The 5-star resort I've been to in the Caribbean refused to serve coffee at breakfast... To a room full of pasty white people...

There are lots of bad resorts in the caribbean. But there are lots of better ones. People who are shitty at travel research get what they deserve.

Most people I know who have been to both Hawaii & Mexico say the two don’t compare.

    Hawaii hands down better.

There will always be people who have different opinions of course.

A lot of times it comes down to the experience they had, shitty weather, bad restaurant, bad hotel or rental, many factors.

I can’t say I have ever had a bad experience in Hawaii.

I can say that over the 15 years that I have been there year after year, the islands have definitely changed, more and more tourists, more and more commercialized.

It’s still beautiful though, and every year I look forward to going back.

I’ve never had a bad day in Hawaii.

It is fucking expensive though, esp Maui.

I haven't been to Hawaii and I agree the two don't compare. A Spanish speaking 2nd world country and one of the richest US states, that's apples and oranges.

Benefits to Mexico are that its often cheaper and always closer. Hawaii, nearly everything else.

I go there once a year at least, last bad day I had was in 2013. Sliced my heel open walking home from dinner on a piece of broken glass that went right through my flip flop

Prior to that, it was in 2010 when I was skateboarding and ate shit, lost a pile of skin on my shoulder/arm/back/torso.

~15 trips of at least 2 weeks each; 2 bad days total. Decent ratio, and much better than my ratio for Mexico trips that I've had.

I also went to the Dominican Republic once. ONCE. I'd rather vacation in Stettler.

Heading off on vacay end of the week.

My only complaints of Maui was the beaches were too cold, and too many entitled Americans.

Agreed. Never had a bad time in Hawaii. Enough that we actually had our wedding there. Man was that expensive. It's a bigger trip so we thought half the guests wouldn't be able to make it but over 90% actually RSVP'd Yes since it's Hawaii.

One of the families loved it so much that they now try to go 1-2 times a year. They just came back last month and already booking for December. He did say this time around it was 30-40% more expensive due to accommodation and food. Inflation? post-Covid premium? Either way not looking forward to it.

It’s funny to me that people can travel to and be guests in someone else’s country and then refer to them as entitled haha

My parents are avid Mexico goers. They know what they like and go 3-4 times a year on a whim. I am trying to convince them hard to give Hawaii a try, I think they will next spring.

I mean it's a lineup, it's not hard to figure out Karen; your mocha cinnamon double shot soy latte will take a little longer. The entitled Americans I speak of are also visitors, locals were fine. Island life I guess?

We found the same with our wedding, so many people were looking for a reason to go to Hawaii. Now 2 years and 5 moved wedding dates later, 80%+ of guests still want to attend.

Anyone been to both Costa Rica and Hawaii? Never been to CR, curious how it compares.

What does Costa Rica cost compared to Hawaii?

That should give you a reasonable indication on how they compare.
    I like neat cars.
