Angry CPS Photo Radar Error Rant

I got 2 photo radar tickets on blackfoot between 34th ave SE and Ogden road SE for doing over 70 in a 60 zone, on a road with a 70kph speed limit. The police service was in error, so I go downtown to dispute the tickets and after and hour and a half wait I am told that I will have to appear in court to fight it and was given 2 separate dates. I will get will receive zero compensation for my time, and I am sure that all the other people that were wrongly ticketed will not be notified. If I was in the wrong I would just pay them, but this is clearly not my fault

It sucks that you have to take time off work, etc in order to fight a ticket where you know you were in the right. Unfortunately, that's our system.

My wife got a ticket once for doing 70 in a 50, but she went back and it was clear that the 50 hadn't even started yet. But it wasn't worth her time to fight in court.

I once got failed on my advanced road test for "doing 80 in a 60" on 16th coming into bowness... guy was like "you know it goes down to 60 here right?" As I'm driving in bumper to bumper traffic... I went "oh? You sure? Cause up there (a block or two ahead) I see the 60 sign"

Nope! He didn't care, I knew I was right... I tried to explain it, he was a dick... then was like "I'll just fail you for entering the parking lot the wrong way then" ... as I look at the incredibly faded arrows that probably have not been redone since the 80s...

Wasted like 1hr driving there and home, 1hr for the test and $100 or whatever for the experience

Moral of the story is speed limits are stupid

Northbound or southbound? Can you see the location of the infraction? I say this because IIRC Blackfoot northbound drops to 60 well before the Ogden/26 Ave. intersection.

There's a couple areas of the city with the stationary cameras and signage are almost setup to fool you.

You're approaching an intersection you know has a stationary camera, either by memory or you notice signage indicating as such. There hasn't been a sign indicating the speed limit in awhile, or you've entered into the roadway from somewhere else and have yet to pass a sign indicating the speed. But just past the intersection with the camera clear as day is a speed limit sign, oh cool it's 80kmh I'm good right? Nope, fuck you limit was 70kmh for the area you're in. It's mandatory for The City to put up signs indicating that the intersection has a speed/red enforcement camera why not add the speed limit to those signs to avoid any confusion? Oh wait I think we all know the answer to that question.

Yep the photo radar van likes to hide behind the little hill just to the right of that green sign in the pic. It's a pretty good hiding spot unless you know to look for it.

Yeah, I've seen them a bunch behind that second sign in the pic. Just about impossible to see at night since they turn all their lights off.
