Luckily he stayed fairly close to the road, if they had tried a deeper woods crossing they would not have survived.

The other thing that bothers me is his asylum claim is based on the fact that he's gay, which is a crime in Ghana that carries up to 3 years of prison time (I looked it up). I think asylum should be reserved for those who would potentially be killed if they were deported back. They're not gonna kill him for being gay...
