Yeah normally i wouldnt get that technical either but OSB or actual plywood is huge in this case. They got the right plywood at least. How old is your floor?
I do hope im wrong that this floor is not a complete failure but grout popping out like that is a huge red flag. Next time they come out to replace a tile watch them do it and ill bet you $100.00 the tile will come off clean with little force and either have no thin set adhesion on the tile or no thinset adhesion on the plywood, sorry if thats confusing but you'll know what i mean when they take the tile out.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

Yeah that's very likely a result of poor installation and not using an uncoupling membrane. I would bet a case of beer that you'll experience the same grout cracking/loose tiles until you re-do the entire floor (correctly).

    Agreed.

I realize it's not the norm anymore but I wouldn't even put OSB in my house, I used 3/4 inch plywood subfloor throughout. Glued, screwed, squeakless and solid.

What's the advantage of plywood vs OSB?

    Bump
We are replacing the Hardwood in the house. We have two big dogs and what is everyone's opinion on Hand scraped Hardwood VS Vinyl flooring?
When it comes to Vinyl flooring what should I look for?

    Thanks

Vinyl is going to wear a lot better. If you ever foresee a time without big dogs, then you could sand the hardwood, but that doesn't seem like it's in the plan.

It’s been 5 or 6 years and the tile looks exactly the same as the day it was installed. We’ve since gotten a dog, who pisses on it daily, our GT3 power wheels still rolling on it, and most of the day it’s a floor hockey arena. It’s been great.

The only issue I’ve had is, the damn Apple TV remote. I’ve gone thru several of them. Every single drop results in smashed glass.

If going vinyl, go with the stone core. Its not nearly as soft.

Restoration Hardware charges more for “distressed finish” … therefore my dog destroyed hardwood is actually a feature? That’s what I tell myself at least

True old growth hard wood is a wonderful, beautiful and durable product.

Most things sold as hardwood floors are disposable garbage.

This sounds interesting. I have never liked the softness of vinyl.

Really you guys? One of the main benefits of hardwood is that it's softer on the feet imo.

^^ had hardwood floors the last 20 plus years and the last 2 have been vinyl installed on top of the hardwood and i wouldnt say there is a huge difference in feel in terms of hardness. Mines the stone with the underlay attached though
