Scotia Bank shutdown a data center and moved it to Toronto and layed off 100% of the Calgary staff in November 2016.
When it comes to data centers, I see more of it consolidate into Toronto as the network gets better.
Still with the same company, survived 4 rounds of layoffs and 25% pay cut (was up to 40% through breakup last year).
Responsibilities have increased 10 fold. Great experience though, definitely expanding that comfort zone.
Oilfield Services.
When extra is back in a white every option king ranch f350; champagne & caviar in the bed...
I'll celebrate.
Until then, we should all just calm ourselves and keep going with the 5 dollar footlong.
Everyone knows he's our economic marker. I mean that sincerely.

It was announced, but the layoffs were completed November 2016. The comment was in reply to some posts alluding that only O&G workers are being layed off and also to the post saying no one was laying off 100% of employees. Case in point, two birds with one "post."Originally posted by Xtrema

You have to be batshit stupid to put a datacenter in Toronto of all places.
Why?Originally posted by suntan

Power availability, old infrastructure, many datacenters are located right on Yonge Street (!!!?!) for some idiotic reason, too close to the water as a result, IMHO. You're paying for location rather than uptime.Originally posted by Xtrema
Why?

Oil has been pretty shaky lately. It sure looked like we were slowly but surely on our way to a recovery but now my confidence is waning.
At least my company is back in the black. For now.
Wife is still with Shell apparently. CNRL's taking 3100 employees. Some of co-workers are now CNRL employee though as of sometime real soon.Originally posted by killramos

BNN was already speculating today on how many of those 3100 won't make it past 6 months.
CNQ will be a major culture shock for a lot of Shell people.
I think it's around 300 in Calgary directly. I would expect half of those to be on the street, one way or the other, this year; with nowhere to go and oil softer every day.
Things aren't getting that much better out there that's for sure.

Definitely will be a culture shock. Shell is hurting for cash for I guess this is a good buy for CNRL. But man I would have never guessed Albian will end up being sold. It was the poster child for so long.
Now I wonder if Scotford upgrader will be impacted or there are contract in place to keep that going. Or may be it's part of the deal.
PR says as Shell will continue to operate scotford but I think CNQ actually owns it now? If I read that correctly.
