Default Has your office/company laid people off or is it picking up? PART 7 (Redesigned Poll)

Lets call this the 2017 Q1/Q2 thread. I can see it taking a slightly darker/sadder turn in Q2 but better than years prior.

So, whats going on with you guys?

Major E&P, 3 rounds of layoffs. Still here. Lots of internal cost cutting over the last 2 years. We are still divesting assets so there may be future layoffs related to that but feel fairy safe..

Had a job at a producer, survived the layoffs, got headhunted and went to a small private company. Things have been ok for me! Knock on wood...

well, my 63 weeks of EI eligibility ended, I haven't found work. I'm still technically running my own business, but that business doesn't make any money. As always, I feel like I'm close to closing a few deals, which would put the business at least in a neutral situation, but we shall see.

Overall, from the people I have spoken to, it does seem like a small number of people are getting hired, and the attitude in the industry has improved, but I don't think we're going to see everyone back to work in 2017, at least not in O&G jobs. Companies are very reluctant to add to headcount that they spent two years reducing.

Overall, I'm really lucky that my financial situation is pretty stable and mostly sustainable. I know so many people who are in worse shape.

Layoffs are done, at least for my particular group and we are in the middle of hiring 3 new people. Our VPs all look to us to get shit done, and everyone just bypasses process and goes straight to my team, so, our group as a whole isn't going anywhere either.

They also just built us a new office space to the tune of $250,000 with all new equipment. Now that our dead weight is gone, we are expected to take on bigger and more responsibility.

    Still "survived" at same company.

Everyone who could find anywhere else to go has left.

    Good times.

Offered a new job yesterday, so quit my job.

Survived, no further layoffs that I know of. Producer.

On a side note, any investment firms want to hire me? Someone who's an extremely quick learner, self-starter? P.Eng, disciplined, committed to learning, great personal trading record due to constantly learning and evolving. PM me for opportunities, just want to get my foot in. Junior trader, doesn't matter.

Survived with the same company - midstreamer.

Projects are busy right now with a bit of a lul toward the end of 2017, but more development work on the horizon for later this year. Looking like things will be full-tilt in 2018 and 2019.

I picked up a double-meat salad at subway a few weeks ago... seems like the good times have returned.

I survived. We let go 2-3 people every other month for a bit over a year (about 1/3rd of our office) but we've brought in half a dozen in the past couple months to ramp up for a project. Will be busy through to the latter part of the summer at the very least.

Still surviving. 2017 will be interesting.

I feel 2018 to be the defining year of how O&G will play out over the next "boom" cycle. I doubt wages will get any higher in the next decade (maxed out in the '12-'14 years) but bonuses will all be back in full.

So, if in 5 years we're all back to 2013 cash and full bonuses that's a huge victory in my eyes.
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age."

Same company, way more responsibility. Midsize producer. We're ramping up like crazy and I expect good bonuses and maybe even raises this year.

Same company, our office is going nuts with work. Our office is an exception. Company let go 1/3 of the workforce in other offices in our division, and is in the process of gutting the bloated non-chargeable support staff. I feel secure in my job, but trapped.

Going the other direction now, in my department (finance) I think we've had 5 people quit in the past month or two and 2 more that were convinced to stay, and at least one more who's in late stages of interviewing (that I know of). All key people too.

Sad to see them leave but I got a promotion for it, so not that sad...

Survived all my layoffs. Got offered a better opportunity, quit my current job. Makes me wish they would have let us volunteer so I could've got a nice package.

Survived. I got a 8% raise the end of last year; they asked me to take on more responsibilities yet my title remains unchanged. I am a EIT
