Yes
911 calls should be $20 per call.
The number of people that call 911 when their car has been stolen I bet is ridiculous.Originally posted by Kaos

I know a guy that went out for dinner, parked his car a block from the restaurant, came back and it was gone so he called 911 to report his car stolen. I bet there are a hell of a lot more idiots like that out there. Oh yea ends up he parked in a no stopping zone and didn't realize it so they towed his car.
Talk to any first responder, nurse, doctor, etc. they could probably fill days of your time with stories like this. There is a shocking percentage of the population who does stuff like this and don't have the capacity to see the problem with it.

Thanks for the 14 years of LOLs. Govern yourselves accordingly and avoid uppercut reactions!
Correct me if I am wrong but there is likely no payment enforcement on that. I would assume it is the same as for ambulances for example, you might get a bill for the trip but nothing happens if you don't pay it. That is what a ER doctor told me anyway.Originally posted by Rat Fink
Alberta has the Emergency 911 Act with provisions to fine for frivolous calls. First time fine can be upto $5000 and second time being fined can be upto $10000.
911 stupid callers happen everywhere, not just in Winnipeg.
One asshole kept tying up 911 (on Vancouver Island) one night because he was pissed off about not being able to get a cab or a ride back home. In the end he was arrested at the payphone location and hauled into the drunk tank.
Lol... When the F350 got stolen last year, I called 911, it was awkward and they were pissed. Gave me another number to call, then another, then another...Originally posted by J-hop

It was super fun telling the same story 4 times and each time getting sent to another "department."
I had never called the police for any reason in my entire life, I assumed 911 was the blanket number to call lol.

Now, the OP clearly shows somebody being an idiot. In a lot of people's heads, the idea is that "oh shit, my car is stolen, better call the cops so they can chase it down!"
The reality is, if you don't see it physically driving away, your car is gone. Its not an emergency, because nothing can be done, the emergency has passed. So its a none emergency call.
But good luck trying to find the right numbers to call.
Well I'll give you points for owning up.Originally posted by gretz

911 is pretty binary.
is there an imminent threat to the health, safety or security of you or someone around you and/or a crime in progress?
Yes- call 911
No- 403-266-1234
The non-emergency line (403-266-1234) has been able to properly direct every call I've ever had to make. Maybe sometimes people just get shit operators.Originally posted by HiTempguy1

Edit: the non-emergency line used to be pasted all over every marked police vehicle so if you've lived in Calgary for any length of time and don't know that number then I don't know.... looks like they've removed it from the newer cars though???

If you don't pay ab health they WILL hit your credit... even if it's for $60, and they send the bill to your old address cause the medics didn't bother checking your ID for your current address and just used what was on file from the last time someone bothered to update it at a merg or walkin clinicOriginally posted by Mitsu3000gt

I had to use an ambulance twice before and received no bill. Wonder what's going to happen lol.Originally posted by Mitsu3000gt

It's almost like calling an ambulance for yourself "can you pick me up, I don't feel so well... i'll just be lying here on the floor" lol

Yea you get some leniency there as I'm guessing the RCs don't ever advertise the non-emergency number. I think yours is 403-652-2357???Originally posted by gretz

And how did you know to call the non-emergency line and what the number was? If your VEHICLE has been stolen, the 2nd largest purchase you will ever make in your life, it most certainly can feel like an emergency. So what do you do? 911. I'm not saying it is right, but that's what happens. If you don't know the non-emergency line, or have never heard of it because it is so poorly advertised, then what?Originally posted by J-hop

If you ask me right now, I have no idea what the Edmonton non-emergency line is. Its not readily advertised, and I have called it before. I would have to look for it. And until probably 2 years ago, I knew no such thing existed. I knew about bylaw (didn't know the number).
So again, while it may be on police cruisers, there is probably 1% of the population who knows where it is, and until relatively recently (the last 5 years) typing "non-emergency line for blank" where blank is the city may or may not have brought up that info, if a person even knew to search for it.

Apparently 911 has been called about 10 times from my office this year already. Probably because of the stupid requirement to dial 9 to get out.
Anyway I was told the next time will be a $250 fine to whoever does it. No one was fessing up but they said next time they will just fine the person who does it.
See the post above that. I was merely getting at the "good luck figuring out what number to call". (For those of us in Calgary)Originally posted by HiTempguy1

I all the older cruisers had it on both sides, was really obvious. Also I've seen PSAs where they mention that number. Also if you google Calgary police phone number it pops right up.
I completely understand why it happens. Something of yours gets stolen that means something to you and you freak out, but doesn't mean you yell fire.
