Hahha almost like it would have saved a huge amount of money to do it that way.

Do you need a contractor that is from the Energy Alberta website to perform work on blowing insulation into your attic to recieve the rebate? Just wondering because it seems to be a hassle vs. just doing yourself and submitting receipts.
Remember, this initiative has nothing to do with helping Albertans or the environment.

Its to fund Nutley's buddies and garner support through frivolous wasting of tax dollars.

Agreed...but I did get over 80 free bulbs out of it and a nice Nest thermostat. It still won't buy my vote though.

Yea but the program is directly funded from notley’s carbon levies. So in the end did you actually get the bulbs and thermostat for free or have you paid for those already at the pumps

Have any of you read the commercial building energy efficiency rebat guide? Not one of the retrofits I did this year with new equipment met the criteria, so rebate equals zero. It's a marketing plan, here's all the money you can get if you can achieve the impossible.

You are paying those taxes either way. May as well get something tangible for it.

Completely agree, but if you read again I was referring to the fallacy that he got those items for “free”

Not sure if you’re just kidding but isn’t the absolute maximum recoverable from the government the lesser of 10k or 30% of system cost?

I went through a sitdown with a company, and the most I qualified for was ~6k on a 25k install.

In your opinion, after that 6/25k grant, how long is the payout?

I'm a huge fan of solar, but it's been a long time since I did any economic analysis on these systems.

Will our faithful government program replace halogen pot light bulbs with led's?

It was through Lowes solar, it was supposed to pay itself off in 10 years, and instead of batteries, enmax "stored" the electricity for you when you overproduced.

I believe for urban homes, local battery storage is a waste of infrastructure. Any details on how much Enmax would pay you for the energy produced vs what you would pay for energy consumed later? or was it just a cost-less kwh "swap" kind of setup.

I think Ontario had some kind of guaranteed payment rate for energy sold to the grid, and that was how they were subsidizing it.

Cost-less swap. Essentially you're supposed to be translating payments from enmax, to the solar panels (they recommend you use a HELOC if you don't have a lump sum). Once you pay it off in 10 years, electricity is free. And the "payments" are supposed to be less than your current bill, so if rates increase, it's even better. The issue I ran into is that my wife doesn't think we'll be in this home for 10 years, whereas I think we will. But if she won't buy into it, I won't pull the trigger.

I think if you can remove yourself completely from Enmax, it's a good thing. Otherwise you'll still be paying their ridiculous fees and surcharges.

What kind of output was expected from the solar array? Roof mounted?

I wonder how that “storage” works exactly, I thought I read that you could not produce more than you consume over the year so would any net positive you have get zero’d every year?

I’ll have re-read that section but I swear it had a section stating you couldn’t over produce.

Fairly certain I read that in calgary to meet habitation code you are required to stay on grid so there is no way to completely avoid their charges.

    Yes, roof mounted.
They do an analysis. You give them your address, and a copy of the year of usage from your enmax bill, they pull you up on google maps, do an analysis of how much you can generate vs how much you use, and you need to be able to cover 96% of annual usage to qualify. It was honestly a free process, and if you're interested, I highly recommend going through it yourself.

I was lucky because my roof slopes south-facing and I have a ton of roof to use.

Yeah, both my roofs are south as well, but they are very low pitch. I have to do my roof sooner than later, so am wondering if I should go balls out and increase the pitch to help with future solar panels. Just through Lowes themselves, or do you do it through the Efficiency Alberta site?
