    Default Humming noise Audi A4

    Hey guys,

my car seems to be having a humming type noise, which rises as I go faster.

A friend of mine, who is mechanically inclined, mentioned it could be possibly due to a worn out bearing. Or even brakes.

When we checked out the brakes from the outside, they look 80%, but not sure how it could be on the inside.

Wondering if any of you know how much this kind of job would run me (getting bearing fixed and/or brakes)?

Would it be recommended only to go via audi dealership or are there other reliable shops who do the work, at a more reasonable rate?

    Share your thoughts, thanks.

    What year of A4?
    Is it Quattro or fwd?

Your description definitely could be a bearing, although its impossible to say 100% without hearing it in person

My uncle just had his front wheel bearing done on his 2012, I'd assume it would be similar price wise. I think it was around 2 hours labor?
As far as a shop, avoid the dealer!!! He's had great experiences with Concept-1, especially recently. He's been a customer for years though.

Generally speaking, a wheel bearing will get louder or quieter when you are turning. Think of load transfer of the vehicle and you can have a good guess at which bearing is making the noise. Also the hum will be speed dependent, faster = louder

Other things that can make humming noises:
    - Differentials, drive shaft, transmission
Generally, these things will make different noises depending on your throttle position.

    - Worn tires or uneven wear on tires. Even poorly designed tread patterns can cause a hum.

Go to Tune Dub if you end up needing a diagnosis or any work done. Nobody else comes close for VW/Audi.

Is it possible you just have loud tires? I've had tires in the past that made an unbelievably loud wail, and then new tires it was 100% gone.

If it was older I might suspect CDSB but not on something that new. Go to Tunedub. 40323TUNED

    UPDATE:

Got it checked out at Tune Dub. Was definitely the front bearings, had to replace both.

Wasn't cheap but it had to be done. Very happy with Tune Dub! Very reasonable and helpful.
