Wife and I just voted at the advance drive-up voting station at McMahon. Didn't even have to get out of the car, took about 10 minutes.
That's pretty cool. Amazing that some people in this day and age still don't vote. What will it take for some people I wonder? Voting volunteers to show up at the door and hold their hands while they do it?

I don't get why they can't implement a Oyster card system like in London? They could track peoples rides and really see how people are actually using it.
Im a bit hesitant on them building a tunnel.. what about the airport tunnel that goes to fucking nowhere..?

On another note, I got my citizenship last month. I finally got to vote today in Canada for the first time.
Congrats on joining our socialist Utopian society comrade!

That is quite a novel idea but how would it work with people who don't own homes?

Municipal income tax. Decrease commercial taxes, compensate by taxing the hell out of people that don't vote

So the basis of the idea would be more of a tool to get people to be engaged in the civic society that we live in, ie if you don't like something write to your Alderman, MP, get organised with local business groups etc.

Everyone who is resident in the city would have a right to vote, owning a home a non issue in that sense. The only change I would have is on the ballot paper there would be a box if you do not want to vote for either of the candidates. The purpose of this is to encompass a citizens right not to vote.
There would be exemptions of course why you could not have voted. It's not a perfect system.

At the end of the year when you do your taxes, you would pay a slightly higher provincial tax rate part of which would be put towards the city/town where you should have voted. Nothing crazy high tax, just a bit higher. Then there is the option of using the percentage of how much you pay depending on how much your earn, but that is another area all together.

Im of the school of thought that if you don't vote, you can't complain.
We need to vote, if we don't the vocal minority will start to hijack the silent majority then issues start to become polarised. Look across the boarder and my motherland the United Kingdom as prime examples.

There are people in places in this world that would die for the right to have a say on how they are treated and governed. It annoys the hell outa me how people don't vote. So if you don't want to take part of this amazing society and city by not voting, I say start start paying for that right not to. But then again this is just a idea.

Coming to this country was hard and it took me a decade. I stood by many a time and watched elections here. I had no right or voice to have a say in how I was governed or taxed. When I took the oath last month, the judge encouraged us to be part of the civic society.

I am proud to have voted today because I had a say in the society that governs me regardless whether I agree with Jabba or not.

Higher taxes for non-voters, man, there'd be a lot of pissed off beyond members.

I'm only kidding of course. But I seriously hope you're wrong. Can't open your mouth if you don't even participate. The system is what it is. Claiming "they all suck so I'm not voting" is a ridiculous cop out. Sometimes you have to vote for the lesser evil. Sitting on your ass is how the system breaks down

I've met Bill Smith a few times. He seems like a good person. Talking with him, I like his reasons for running.

And I'm tired of Nenshi and his team. he had a good run, I won't try to take that away from him. But he had some missteps, and I grew weary of his attitude. I believe he's not the best choice for mayor, and I believe giving him 4 more years won't improve that.

Shouldn't everyone care... the decision will decide the Mayor of our city for the next 4 years
Calgary civic elections are held every three years.
And numbers from zero to nine should be spelled out.

They were. After 2013 they're every four years now.

Maybe I've just spent too much time on social media this week, but holy crap it seems the purple revolution gone full retard. Parody websites put up every other day, extreme trolling on social media, huge props to Chabot and slights against Smith.

I mean c'mon. Nenshi had the audacity to release some smug anti-troll anti-bullying PSA. And then makes a 'fake facts' site to hurt Smith.

What happened to the happy go lucky YouTube vids we all voted for in 2013. I can't imagine this is helping his campaign at all.

Nenshi was on CBC this morning, acknowledging Chabot as an actual opponent, shrugging off Smith as zero experience. Looks like he's trying to swing the anti-Nenshi vote over to Chabot for split voting.
If that Mainstreet poll is legit, this is Nenshi’s only chance.

Went out and voted today, was quite quick.

The beyond polls show Smith just edging out Nenshi. Weird thing is....the beyond polls seem to be more accurate than the legit polls out there:

    https://forums.beyond.ca/threads/391...t=ndp+election NDP Won

    https://forums.beyond.ca/threads/399...ighlight=trump - Trump Won

https://forums.beyond.ca/poll.php?po...do=showresults - This one is accurate in that Alberta remained predominantly PC as the beyond poll clearly didn't represent the remainder of the country but rather only Alberta.

Curious the accuracy of this beyond poll....maybe Nenshi is out and Smith is in

Nenshi compares Bill Smith to Rob Ford.... no wonder everyone is sick of Nenshis antics.

    What a knob.
If Nenshi loses, I suspect he'll react with a Ford like rampage.

I ask this again, who the hell are the people participating in the polls? haha, I've never known anyone that has participated.

I think it's all old people. They said they called landlines and cellphones. Very few people other than 50+ers have landlines and all young folk are on do not call lists.

    That leaves old people.

Not saying the poll won't turn out to be right, but I think their sample base is flawed
