Just finished reading his biography. It was pretty weird thinking about how things were then, and the gong-show we find ourselves in now.

Funniest part was him discussing how him and Cretien were actually pretty tight, and saw eye to eye on a lot of stuff.

It's all fun and games until interest rates start rising.

She will be another Allison. I think she is better as MP.

I am hating all the conservatives who failed at the federal level are all coming back.

It's one thing to leave Ottawa to take a shot at running the province, but leaving the federal level for the muni-circus? I don't think I would be doing that unless I had personal reasons to be back in Calgary.

I think city council would be a refreshing and relaxing gig after ottawa.

I dunno, the mayor still has a pretty bright light on them but it's all mickey mouse crap to deal with, low rent kind of problems. Once you've been the big fish in the big pond it's kind of hard to go back to the little puddle, even if you're the biggest fish there. Maybe that's just me.

I would agree that being mayor for a big city like Calgary is an upgrade over a basic (non-leader/non-cabinet) MP. Salary is definitely higher... i think mayor is around 230k while an MP is around 160k

I'm pretty sure Nenshi has banged more dudes than either Rempel or her sister.

The muni job has a much better lifestyle than the MP gig. MPs I've know get killed by the travel. It's a really hard job on families.

Ya, travel sucks for sure, but at least they get to expense everything.

$218K and $167K to be exact.

But I'm pretty sure MP has a more generous and less politically visible spending budget. I think average spending per MP is around $90K.

Nenshi really does need to be humbled. He hasn't been a terrible mayor or anything but he gets far too much credit for a guy that hasn't exactly been creative as his answer to everything is to raise taxes. Anyone can do that. He's also kind of embarrassing at times as well as I cringe at some of his condescending twitter spats. That said what a sad sack group of candidates. I simply may not vote.

Also can the sheep in ward 7 get a spine and get Farrell out of city hall? Fuck that ward really pisses me off.

Ward 7 member here, we've been trying for years, she usually has 2-3 candidates running against her, with 60+% of voters selecting anyone but druh. Thanks to first past the post, vote splitting gets her reelected every time.

What's the outlook this time? Anyone competent that can amass 40%? She's been in city hall for far too long and needs to go.

So realistically, is there room for a newcomer to sweep in and win this election? 52% support is low, but it's still enough to get re-elected. Are the good candidates just waiting until he loses all support before they pop up?
I can eat more hot wings than you.
