The trains run way more frequently. 20 years ago during rush hour the train arrived every 7 minutes. Now sometimes they arrive almost immediately one after another. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Trains also now get first priority on lights, so plowing through that horrible downtown section takes about five minutes less than it used to.

Shit, just vote Larry in - he'd probably take your proposal and run with it.

Oddly enough, I kind of like the bike lanes even though I don't use a bicycle. Been doing a ton more pedestrian walking (gotta catch 'em all) and having the buffer zone between car traffic is pleasing if only for the idea that I'm not sucking in anywhere near as much exhaust as I normally would.
The timing was not all that bad if you ask me.
Looks like it will be a close race between Smith and Nenshi.
I’m expecting Nenshi to win by a landslide but I’m also excited to see if Smith can pull off an unexpected silent majority trump style upset. One thing I’ve noticed is that even with the Nensheep on full blast on social media, there’s a lot of Nenshi hate out there this time around that’s not being reported or taken seriously. I’ve also been surprised at several former Nenshi diehards that I know deciding not to vote Nenshi this time around.

Yes, the precedent has been set that they mayor can be indemnified. Real groundbreaker. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
He was mayor up until a new one would have been elected (it isn't like parliament or the legislature where everybody is fired when an election is called), and then continued to be mayor after he won re-election.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgar...emma-1.3568292The news back then said Council voted that Nenshi was to repay the money and he was in agreement..
"I wasn't super excited about his insistence that... he be made to pay it back, but he insisted," said Carra.
Bill seems alright but he keeps clinging to the lie/misrepresentation that since 2011 our property taxes have gone up 51% which several people have shown is just flat out false. I wonder how much more of his platform is BSThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The people that actually understands how our property taxes work is a small minority. He might be full of shit, but many will still believe him. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Honestly I wish what we did is hold a "debate" night, where basically you'd have a panel of experts and their job was to pick apart candidates platforms and statements they've made. The candidates wouldn't be allowed to address each other or talk about each other and would simply have to defend their platform.
I don't understand why we don't do that in politics. Every grad student has to do that, it's called defending their thesis. Instead we all give into the show of it (which I guess Is actually pretty tame in municipal elections) and are swayed mostly by who bullshits/bends the truth better.
The mill rate has gone up over the years so I don't know what you guys are talking about. Also via the math of compounding little yearly increases add up.
Shockingly Smith has a substantial lead over Nenshi.

Lol, do the math and see if you can come up with the 51 percent smith claims. The answer is you can'tThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
At the end of the day it comes down to how much money is coming out of people's pockets for their property tax payment. People don't really care about mill rates or the provincial portion - just that dollar amount they lay out and I know looking at our home that there certainly hasn't been anything near to a 51% increase in our monthly payment as some are claiming.

Mine’s gone up 62%.
Yeah, we've seen how wildly accurate polls have been in the last two general Alberta elections. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Exactly. But people will twist the numbers how they please. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
And poles, I have to wonder where the pole information comes from. Calgary isn't very big in terms of number of eligible voters yet I have never participated or known of anyone that has ever participated in a pole hahaha
Ah, the things you don't know. You're referring to the PC win? There was a poll done on the Friday before the voting day (Monday that time). It had the PCs out with a lead. I was at Sandra Jansen's house on the Saturday, and they all had a huge shit eating grins. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The NDP win was a surprise? Were you comatose at the time? They had a substantial lead right up to election day.
