Those black metal snap traps from Amazon are what I use.

Buy way more of them than you think you need.

Thanks guys, will be making a trip to Walmart later tonight to see if I can find something right away. If not, will scour Amazon. Will bait them with Peanut Butter regardless of the kind of traps I get.

Absolutely quantity over quality. Lay out as many dollar snaptraps as you can around the trenches, ideally tucked against structure edges. Baiting with peanut butter helps, but not necessary as it will attract bugs. Then just check them every few days.

A report back on the war on voles. My winterizing strategy worked well. Boarded up gaps underneath the patio, cleared and padded down the snow around the edges whenever it was nice out.

Result: No surface trenches, left a few traps under the patio and caught one. No pictures this time because as are legit cannibals. The only thing left in the tripped trap was a crushed head under the kill bar. The body was dragged around and all I see left is a pile of fur off to the side. So this means there's at least one still out there, the war wages on...

I had to deal with a few live ones. I was a little hesitant for the first kill. After that, hulk smash, I take no prisoner.

Yea I dont want to jinx it but my lawn survived this winter. I had half a down traps out all winter and didn't catch anything and no damage.

Edit: Yup, thats voles. Lay traps along the fence and along the grass/mulch edging.

Pick up a bag of grass seeds and dirt while you're at it. You're gonna need to patch with dirt and seeds after you've caught a few.

Always sell a vole slam house in the winter. Rookie mistake.

    Haha. Shit.

Picked up a 12 pack of the wooden disposable traps. Was trying to find some artificial bait as putting peanut butter outside and attracting other birds and shit isn’t ideal but can’t seem to find any such bait here, but recall seeing something in Canadian Tire once. Is bait a must when placing these or can throw them as is?

Will also look for grass seed now I guess. Thanks.

Bait is peanut butter. Birds won't be a problem.

Haha took way too long to build this one so that won't be happening even though the market is hot right now and there's decent coin to be made lol.

So I haven't laid the traps out yet and plan to do that tomorrow after baiting them with peanut butter but went out to take a look (the pictures above are from April long weekend) and saw no new tracks anywhere in the lawn. Just those same ones as before and they seemed died down if that makes sense. They aren't as prominent as they were in the pictures. And as I said, no new tracks anywhere in the entire backyard from what I could tell.

Does this mean anything? Are the voles gone somehow and I don't need to worry about traps? Still do it anyway?

    Oh they are still there.
