Yes, they stink up the entire block with a sulfur smell. Be careful using them as your neighbours may get upset. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Haven’t caught anymore but we had to remove all the traps from our backyard cause we got a little puppers now.
I put 6 traps out caught 2 mice in my greenhouse and one by the swale then I left them in there and came back the next day and it looks like one of the mice had been partially eaten by something else. Unsure if mouse or voles or some other animal would eat a dead mouse. We are aspen adjacent so not a tonne of established small wildlife around here.
Put 2 more traps out and caught 2 more mice, again the dead mice in the greenhouse were partially eaten by something and im unsure what.
Edit:
Just setup a nest cam inside the greenhouse - although im pretty sure the mice themselves are eating their own dead since there food is probably quite scarce.

After chuckling at this thread for years the karmic forces strike.
Looks like my front yard has them bad. Gonna be a fun spring...
Looks like they are burrowed under my front walkway so might have to track down some of those smoke bombs and let them rip.

..and more fun
They got in under the fence this year. Got surface trenches, do you just let it grow back or fill with dirt and seed?
Also is it too late for traps? This all happened under the deep snow and I don’t see trenches connected to the deck.
Ignore the lumps, that’s just mulch.
They dont just go away in summer so yea get traps out there ASAP... good luck!
And I'm pretty sure they eat the roots of the grass so when you rake it you'll be left with strips of bare dirt. I've always put down seed and little topping of dirt to get new grass growing, will take a month or so and obviously dont bother till it warms up a bit.
Part of our damage, the worst part if still wet so I can't rake it yet.
I ordered a dozen traps to start.
Can anyone confirm whether the bucket method works on voles? Have had great success with them and mice in the past.
Tossed the cat in the yard for a while this AM. He was characteristically unhelpful.
Pics for context.
Anyone had success with spreading coffee grounds? Have heard it can be effective.

I ordered some bobcat urine as a deterrent for mice and voles.
An elderly lady at Canadian tire with a “magazine quality” garden recommended it.
Should be here this week, we’ll see
The snow on my mom's lawn melted enough for me to inspect it this weekend and I didn't notice any vole tracks. This is the second year in a row since my dad gassed their tunnels with car exhaust where there weren't any post-winter tracks.
Prior to that our lawn was a mess after each winter thaw, which was really frustrating especially after we had just paid to have sod laid.
I've tried the smoke bombs, lots of them. They are never as successful as the good ole snap trap with peanut butter. I assume i am vole free after all last year battling those guys. The spring thaw this year only resulted in 1 caught which is down from 8 this time last year.
Are these tracks from voles?
I noticed a few tracks by my porch and started clearing the snow away. I think that drove them away. I caught a few last summer and I didn't even use bait. Just left the traps by the holes (entrances) at the bottom of my porch. My dog took care of the backyard.
My neighbour's cat seems fairly effective
Sure looks like it yes. If you rake that area you'll pull all the dead grass up and the tracks will become more pronounced. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I’m not that surprised. Just bought the house in Jan and the previous owners were some next level of lazy fucks so the yard has probably been like this for years. They essentially did 0 maintence and what was done was done very poorly. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
