My lawn was even worse than the pic above. I did nothing to try and get rid of them over winter. Did manage to kill one with the lawnmower last summer. But they just packed up and left this year. Snow is gone and my grass is fine, so are the neighbors by the looks of it.

I remember explaining to the home depot guy that I was placing traps outside my home to catch rodents, and he said "you can spend a lot of money trying to catch all the mice out there"

If budget is my limitation on mice killing then ill be killing a lot of f'n mice

I have mice not voles around my duplex. I find I get fewer misfires with the kind with the plastic footpad vs the metal thing.

Haha took way too long to build this one so that won't be happening even though the market is hot right now and there's decent coin to be made lol.

So I haven't laid the traps out yet and plan to do that tomorrow after baiting them with peanut butter but went out to take a look (the pictures above are from April long weekend) and saw no new tracks anywhere in the lawn. Just those same ones as before and they seemed died down if that makes sense. They aren't as prominent as they were in the pictures. And as I said, no new tracks anywhere in the entire backyard from what I could tell.

Does this mean anything? Are the voles gone somehow and I don't need to worry about traps? Still do it anyway?
They burrow through your lawn during the winter. They are still there but wont burrow like that in the summer.

Peanut butter the traps and get after it.

Personally, I found the peanut butter didn't work that well. What really worked for me was to put the trap or traps around the entrace/exit points so as soon as they come out...whamo. Deadski.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

Yup, agreed. Peanut butter not needed. You can trace the vole tracks to their entry on edge of grass, place it there and great success. I posted earlier using these traps https://www.amazon.ca/Mouse-Humane-R...ct_top?ie=UTF8 and my review https://www.amazon.ca/gp/customer-re...SIN=B086W7K275 They were great and easy to clean end of season, just threw them all into a bucket of hot water to get the muck out and air dry. So far no tracks this year and no voles yet...

I set up 12 traps yesterday at random spots (with PB) in and around the tracks and I will take a look when I get home today to see if there are any changes. This morning I had peeked out of the window and had no noticed anything from what I could tell.

You'll catch 99% against your fence line. Just line them up there.

Ok I will move them all along the fence. I do have several along the fence now too but not all of them. Btw just did a check a little while ago and there does not seem to be any action so far. Maybe they are gone away?

I find mixing the peanut butter with oats works great. No Voles again this year. Late fall I set traps and every big snowfall I go out and pack down the snow around the edges of my yard.

Same here. I want to say maybe 25% of our lawn was molested along the fence and deck last year.

Last fall I cut low and dethatched the lawn. No signs of them this time over winter.

I get these fuckers digging beneath my deck.

Have some bait stations set up but every day new holes. Traps haven’t caught shit. Hate these cunts. No damage to the grass just holes burrowing under deck. I chucked some poison into the holes too. Will see in a couple
Of days if they fuck off and die or not

Traps are always more effective right along a wall, fence, or barrier. Rodents habitually walk tight to these perimeter barriers and then make 90° turns into open areas. They are like a proper golf cart user, LoL!

I do not recommend this because it will attract other creatures.

I tried that and I caught a bird in one trap and know the rabbits or cats or whatever triggered the rest.

Like I said, what I found that really worked was putting the traps at the holes so when they come out, that's it.

Voles may look like mice, but they aren't and so what works for catching mice doesn't necessarily work in this instance.

    Let's not Mar this up.

The magpies are damn near worse than the voles. I’m losing 0 sleep if one of those is collateral damage.
