There was one magpie that figured out the traps contained delicious rodents and would often beat me in the morning to the traps.

Had some vole action on one part of the front lawn this year. How long do I have to have my dog out front to scare them off? The other front side he plays on from time to time and no sign of them there. And the back was totally fine too.

Check for a nest or holes on the one side with the damage. It sounds like you have a nest that somewhere and the fuckers haven't found the other side or back....yet.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

W ell I’m not that worried about the back. Both neighbors had it bad in the back and we had none. But my dog is back there a lot. Never have had it back there since we got the dog. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Thread inspired me to get out there and rebait and reposition my trap network. Found 3 dead in traps.

Before or after you moved them?

One thing I find is my traps are pretty hair trigger, so I find slot of them set off with nothing in them. Tough to say if it was the wind or if the fuckers dodged them in time

Those are the voles of spring past.
Just for @suntan …
3 dead this morning after setting traps yesterday evening. Found this fucker whole in my shed, 2 more on my front lawn missing their bodies.
3 dead in one night for 10 traps, I like those ratios.
Notably, none of the dead ones were in the 3 traps set along the fence haha and I baited with nothing but peanut butter

What brand of traps are those? Are you re-using them or tossing them out after you get a kill? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I've got the wooden traps and they are kinda shitty.

Pretty sure they are these. Work great for reuse. Honestly I just shake the dead one out into my green bin and put it back, add peanut butter if needed.

No catches on mine...will reposition all along the fence tomorrow.
I maintain. Nothing wrong with hedging your bets.

Having a shitton of traps is also necessary.
Also I should mention that you need traps set along your house, they can sense the warmth from your house and will walk along its edge looking for a way in.
Your dog is the perfect rodent killer if he can catch them. Dogs do wonders for stuff like this just watch the dog as you have no idea what rodents maybe packing. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
So the thing I caught in my greenhouse was definetly a vole because on saturday I was working on the garden and I saw a tiny mouse pop out from under my front step and start chewing on some grass. I put down a peanut butter trap and it was somehow able to eat the peanut butter without setting off the trap. I put down a poison mouse trap next to the hole. Now hes gone. Although now my wife is concerned theres a dead mouse under the concrete step. I am unconcerned because I think ants, spiders and whatever else will devour this in in no time.
Dead mouse outside is no problem. Although very unlikely he ate enough poison to die unless there's no other food sources around, which is probably only true over winter. Mice are crafty fuckers, but eventually you'll get them with the traps.
And trust me, for mice or voles, if you see 1, you have 10.

Something ate the poison its in side this box in a see through container that only a small mouse could get to and a big chunk of the bait is eaten. I would take a photo but im at work right now. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
