That’s what I figured. Just curious on the apparent urgency.

Set out 8 traps, I checked today and caught 2 voles so far. Used no bait and just put them on their trails like others mentioned.

Will put a couple inside the garage by the door just in case. The rest will out near tracks and holes.

Had nothing for a couple years and then this recent snow melted and I had some trails near my shed. None to be seen but one committed seppuku in my window well.

I've had Voles until last winter. I noticed all my neighbors without kids or dogs got voles. Light bulb moment for me. Neighbors kids are always out playing in the back yard and packing down the snow. So last winter I went out and packed down the first big snowfall that was going to stick around and packed down a couple more after. Neighbors must have thought I looked crazy but no voles this spring. I also did my normal fall trap session.
Just an idea anyway. I'll see if it works this year as well.

    Bastards!
That looks brutal. They were chewing away all summer unnoticed?

I gave up trapping after it attracted all sorts of bugs in the summer. Left one unbaited snaptrap under the deck and found out it caught one as I was cleaning the yard yesterday. Carcass seemed fresh, they might be actively looking for new nests as soon as the snow fell last week?

I've blocked the narrow gap between the patio and the lawn to stop them from going under, and put unbaited traps up all around. The reason, I don't want to introduce food or shelter to the area.

We'll see how many it can eliminate before the snow. And once the snow falls, I'll try packing down the perimeter of the patio as suggested. But that's it, once the snow cover sets in, there's nothing we can do.

I've got about 10 traps going right now. Just caught another one yesterday. I plan to fill any holes I see with powdered mash potatoes mixed with artificial sweetener before the next snow storm.

My traps are back out. No birds or voles yet.

And I plan on running the dog in the front yard once the real snow flies and I've heard that its helps to pack it down (like Darth said above).

Yup, I plan to do that this year, just around the edge of the lawn to create an ice barrier.

Caught a vole in my greenhouse last week. I store all my summer shit in their in the winter and when I picked up a pot a vole was underneath. I have no vole tunnels and shit in my yard though, but I have two squarefoots in my greenhouse. Do they just live in the dirt. I set out 9 traps and caught it the next day but im wondering if I should just dig out all the dirt in the two squarefoots to see if I can find the rest of them. I heard someone say that for every 1 you see you probably have 20+

What are you guys doing after trapping them? Don't they make poison or something that just kills them? If so, what should I be getting?

I noticed these lines as in the picture above after the snow melted and since this is first season I've had grass after winter, it took me by surprise. Research suggests it's these fuckers, so I need to know what I can do to address the problem.

*they're killing traps, not live-traps... Just to be clear.

    Wilasrin, Bromone, Warfarin, etc.
But honestly, the traps work way better. These things are less inclined to eat the poison than the mice you'd typically see in your house.

Oh okay. Yea as long as I don't gotta deal with the live ones after the fact. So basically you just place the traps along the tracks that you see on the gross or all over your lawn in random spots? What kinda traps should I be getting?

LoL at live traps for fucking mice! Can you imagine?! I bet it's a thing.

Victor. Cheap enough to throw out as a single use if you don't want to engage in corpse mgmt.

I use the cheap wooden snap traps. Buy 20 of them and lay them out along your fence or along your foundation wall. And maybe throw a few in the tracks sure. I've only ever caught them along a fence or wall.

Anyways, start with 10+ and that should put a pretty quick dent in them... and then just keep traps out basically forever lol. Good luck.

I use those black ones that were in this thread a while back - just smear some peanut butter on them and then set and forget.
