wasnt there some debate/controversy around here a while back about the break in procedure?

Mine did come with the sticker in the window, I am through break in so I removed it. Its pretty ugly no idea how Rage can stand the thing.

I think it said keep it below 4000 RPM, no kick down, and below 140 kph for the first 1500 km.

Service the rear differential at 3000.

I was fairly gentle on the car during break in except that I was fairly aggressive on downshifting, because when a car sounds as good as it does on downshifts how can you not.

Mine is still on. Too lazy to take it off.

Have you looked into the secondary cat delete?

apparently there is a good increase in sound, and the little bastards get crazy hot under the car.

No i haven't looked at much in the way of mods yet. Flashing it to S63 performance (601 HP) would be interesting though...

I'm not much of a mods guy at all. My car is fast enough for me. Fine the way it is. But the cat delete seems like a pretty easy/reasonable thing to do.

AMG has started cracking down on ECU flashes. Not to the extent of VW tamper codes, but there are visual checks of the ECU for major issues. Most of the AMG's require the ECU to be cracked open to be flashed.

Secondary cat delete is a common mod for MB owners. Gets good rumble without compromising cabin sound quality.

    Still thinking about it.

Honestly any talk of modification on this car is just bluster on my part...

I am way too chicken shit of warranty issues.

I recall reading about the 6.2 litre tunes a long time ago where someone said that the difference in from the 450hp -> 481 -> 507 was not in the tune, but physical part changes. The tune was the same for all the motors. The lighter crank and pistons provides the extra power in the P51 and 507 package.

Much like the C43 and the E43, I wonder if the tune is the same and simply having the bigger turbo gives the E43 more power.

I know on the 5.5TT, the tune is different because the turbos are the same and the S models just get more PSI.

I wonder how the 4.0TT is tuned. The E63 / S63 is getting a full 100hp more than the GTS and C63S. Can't just be tune. That being said, I really know nothing about the 4.0TT other than it being a hot V.

    ya. its all tune.

The M178 engines are all identical. When tuned, they put out identical power.

Supposedly the S63 is still an M177 which is a good start, got confirmation from AMG on the PL on that one.

If the engines are physically different I almost prefer that, compared to knowing a couple of hex digits are all that are keeping me from 600 HP.

Even the GT-R doesnt break the 600 mark while the E and S do, but those are both 4matic. Seems like they are accepting the rwd limitations on this one more than anything.

The M178 tunes, all yield about 620hp, and a big increase in tourque over stock on any of the engines.

I think the only difference to the M177 from the M178 is the dry sump...so I assume they all would yield similar final performance numbers. Gotta leave room for a BS, right?

The GT R has bigger turbos doesn't it?

Well, they went to twin scroll, I think...but AFAIK (I might be wrong), they are all using the same engines. the GT-r might be the exception.

It's isn't just the dry sump. Air box is totally different.

I thought that the twin scroll turbo was one of the differences between the the S and Non-S. Not sure where I am getting that from though.

So all the 500+ HP M177/8's should be twin scroll.

I can't find part numbers for the E63 or GT, GTS or GTR. This is what I could find below:

    C63: 177-090-00-80
    C63S: 177-090-00-80
    G 550: 177-090-00-80

has anybody looked into a high-end exhaust shop they trust to do the secondary cat delete?

Never mind the sound, it would be nice to get the heat out of there. It's totally reversible too.

http://csprecision.ca/ OG beyond @legendboy does this kind of work. Part time though.

Then there is Unobtainium. http://higherarcing.org/ probably more your style. Very premium for a very, very, very premium price.
