Couldn't imagine riding without a helmet. No Issues with new law.

However, David Swann, needs to chill the fuck out with the government needs to go further.

Swann said the province should introduce age restriction and mandatory training, testing or licensing.
Those steps would kill the hobby all together, especially for families

Did they drop the private land part? That's good... over reach imho

Putting around the farm on an atv is pretty low risk

You mean the nationwide online test? The one that 90% of people just got their one friend that knows what they're doing to write for them?

Doesn't include private land so I have no problem with it, although I've never worn one it doesn't bug me to go get one.

Licensing and testing though? Get real

    Kids shouldn't be operating boats.

But kids should be operating PW50's when they are young without dealing with age restrictions.

We have a water access only cottage... boats are a right of passage for kids up there... but also limited to 9.9hp, was great fun

They already have an ATV license program but it's not mandated. It's really no big deal, you do different excercises to demonstrate you can handle an ATV and then you write a written test. It's good for 3 years or so

I would have no problem with this considering how many morons there are out on ATVs specifically. Some idiot showed up to the course and wanted to use his 900cc raptor, guy was an absolute idiot on it and ended up dropping it on himself when loading it at the end of the day.

Not everyone should be on ATVs....

With respect to helmet laws, mandatory training and such, there are most likely a lot of unseen pressures on any government to make changes. Things like insurance companies, increased hospital costs, ongoing therapy and support costs - all of these things affect our insurance rates and our taxes.

Now some of this is laughable, the national boating certificate - my son and I took the exam on a whim outside of Cross Iron Mills and passed with ease. Did it make me less dangerous on a high mountain lake in BC that's 20+ miles from anywhere and where we won't see another soul for 8 hours? Nope but I could still be liable for a ticket if I didn't have that piece of paper. Now I know it's directed at a certain subset of boaters but to be able to walk in and pass the exam with no review or studying is ridiculous.
    Will fuck off, again.

Yea the boaters license is an absolute joke. The average Albertan also spends so little time on the water so you end up with a bunch of inexperienced people ripping around. It's surprising to me there aren't more fatalities

Swann is a Doctor, He's anti anything fun that can Injure people. Besides, Licensing would be unenforceable. So many people ride on private land, and SRD has a hard enough time enforcing the current trail system and rules. No where near the resources to actually enforce this.

Remember, in Texas and Arizona the state does not cover your costs if you fuck up. That's why the rules get tougher here as everybody else pays for your mistakes.

    Not true.

But by the s.e nanny state laws, just ban ATVs, cars, skateboards because they all cost me more, as a taxpayer.

If something as simple as having to wear a helmet stops you from riding im guessing it's no big loss for you. People riding without helmets look like such turds anyways. Don't tell me you wear a bandana and shades hahaha

What part of what I wrote was not true? Also note that I did not side nanny state vs not, I simply explained why these rules come into play more here than in places where the costs of misadventure are not shared by the populous.

Here, for the nanny state busy bodies, we can reduce costs to taxpayers even more.

You do not understand US healthcare spending, mandatory health insurance, medicaid, or anything else.

You didnt explain anything to me. You jsut jsutified nannystate busybody excuses of why they have a right to poke their nose in others business.
