All those young guns, they're going to make for an interesting season.

The King has picked up a good one in Bubba...

Margin of victory in the Infinity race is purported to be 4/10,000 of a second, second/third place in the Daytone 500 was probably less.

Talladega this weekend. Video from last year:

I am really starting to like these highlight videos with the radio communications. Cool to hear the spotters trying to get their drivers through the crash at 2:40.

It's been 27 years since NASCAR mandated speed limits on pit road but in this weekend's unique qualifying format for the all star race, NASCAR dropped the pit road speed limit rules. So strange to see cars coming off the track almost at speed and going crazy fast in the pits, kind of makes me want no speed limits during the races again but I know that won't ever happen again.

Wow. That’s awesome. Why did they get rid of the speed limit? Really surprised in today’s safety conscious racing.

Probably because it was only a single car on the track at a time and NASCAR decided to throw a pit stop into the qualifying laps.

Still quite something to see them come flying off of the track into the pits at speed. Some of the drivers have never known pit roads without speed limits, probably most of them. Harvick and Johnson and a few others maybe raced when there no pit road speed limits but it wouldn't have been at this level.

Kyle Larson (42) drifting it at 154mph into pit road when the regular pit road speed is 55mph at this track.

Sonoma this Sunday for all the people who get a thrill out of right hand turns.

Here's a video with a few drivers comparing NASCAR road racing to open wheel and sports cars.

Hahaha! Any other racing format there would have been a lego explosion on the track.

I thought Larson was going to be able to drive out of that. Ended the way it probably should have though.

How does Larson get so much speed on the outside and keep the turn..? Would it not have been better then to stay on the outside and keep the speed...?

I'm quite surprised Busch was able to hold on for the win after smacking the wall twice.

Larson was taught a good lesson, next time he might think about using his bumper to get the win.

Running around the outside can be faster sometimes. You have to brake sooner, but because the radius of the corner is longer the car isn't bound up against itself as it's trying to turn. So you can get back into the gas faster and carry more speed through the exit of the corner and down the straight. But it's the long way around the track, and depending on how the car is set up it might not drive very good around the outside, and it takes a certain amount of talent or bravery since there's no room for error.

At 50 seconds you can see Busch is blocking Larson, so Larson doesn't have much choice but to go low. There's no rules against blocking in NASCAR like there is in F1 so you can do whatever you need to do to block, and all Busch has to do is block whatever lane Larson is trying to use and all the momentum Larson has built over the last couple laps is lost. When you hear the announcer saying "slide job", what he means is Larson is going to dive bomb the corner. You can't normally do that because eventually you've got to crank the wheel to get the car to turn, and as you do the car will push or understeer. That's not generally the fast way to do things, but if you dive in hard enough, your car will slide up in front of the car you're passing, and you'll complete the pass. It didn't work and right as he got to Busch's rear quarter he got a little loose, had to correct and got into Busch. As you'd expect with Busch, he got into Larson and that was that. Or at least that's what I think from the clip. I didn't watch the race so that's all I have to go on. Good racing all around.

I can't wait until Darlington when all the cars look like that.

Well that Daytona race sure was insane, even the winner's car had tape holding it's body together and I honestly don't know how Stenhouse was still running at the end considering how much shit he caused, he was involved in and how many times he crashed or was banged up. Almirola's tire and hub assembly breaking off in an accident and actually ending up in a better finishing position then the rest of the car after catching up to the car and bouncing over it. Certainly an entertaining race and I don't think anyone would've picked Jones to pull off his first win at this track.

    Winner's car in victory lane...
