say whaat
No, he did not say that, he said that councilors could be tempted to go on the take if salaries weren't set high enough. It's okay to have a hate on for his purple plumpness but to say he said something when he clearly did not is another thing.Originally posted by phreezee

This was the mayor's statement...
Please show where he stated they will take bribes?"You also have to make sure you're paying people fairly enough because if you don't pay them well and you're surrounded by people who are making investments in millions and millions of dollars, let's just be blunt.

I can't believe an elected official would say something like this in public. If they are tempted to take bribes at a certain salary, you expect us to believe they would all of a sudden not be tempted if their salary is 10-20% higher? Who determines at what salary levels they would be tempted to take bribes?Originally posted by speedog

I think he's talking about being tempted to latch onto a sugar daddy and his career suddenly becomes less of a priority; becoming a stay-at-home-mayor."You also have to make sure you're paying people fairly enough because if you don't pay them well and you're surrounded by people who are making investments in millions and millions of dollars, let's just be blunt.

Shit, we should go back and take some of your posts out of context as well then.Originally posted by M.alex

I should put context to my previous post then...
I'm not calling Nenshi gay so don't take my post out of context.
I'm just saying he could be tempted by a man with a lot of money to do things that he normally wouldn't because of the bank roll.
His words, not mine.
How do you know that it would be a man that could be the tempting one - sounds like you're still taking something out of context?Originally posted by mr2mike

Never the less, Nenshi has not said anything that is necessarily incorrect - there are many people in many professions that will take a bribe in exchange for something. Hell, how many candidates in the last election were on the builder's slate and had very plump campaigns bank rolled by the building industry - I would bet every one of the people on that slate would roll over on any vote that favoured the builders.
So now it's okay to say that Nenshi said something will happen when he didn't say such, not okay for Nenshi to basically comment on what could happen and that it's most likely okay for some candidates to be bankrolled in a certain fashion ? You guys are a riot.
The city unions can use that as a bargaining tool... "Increase pay, or we might be tempted to start stealing shit"...

They all do something shady.
Look at Bronconier, buying up houses along the future train line before it's announced, then increases his home values and profits.
That's deemed insider trading.
Looks like a new contender has announced he's running for mayor. http://calgaryherald.com/news/local-...-for-mayoralty
I can eat more hot wings than you.
It sounds like Bill Smith will be able to raise money, but can he build name recognition? Let's be honest, municipal politics is just a popularity contest on par with student council elections.

It's an uphill battle for sure. Sadly, how well someone can do at the job comes into play after we elect them, before that it's all about social engagement and winning people over.Originally posted by Masked Bandit

Will be interesting to see how all the candidates do this summer with that.

Just for info - the builder's slate from the last election. I wonder how many are running this time - Chu is for sure.
Will fuck off, again.
